Three Taber Golden Suns teams were back on the ice this weekend as the Alberta Elite Hockey League continued.
U13
After a tie and a loss in their first weekend, the U13s welcomed in the Bow Valley Timberwolves on Saturday. The visitors would take a 2-0 lead in the first period before Taber would answer with two of their own early in the second. Travis Jackson and Shawn Mrowil had the goals while Callaghan Tjeerdema, Eli Robb, and Blaze Wenzel all collected assists.
In a back-and-forth game, the Timberwolves would score two straight to retake a two-goal lead. But with just a few minutes left on the board, the Golden Suns would tie it right back up with a pair of quick strikes. Mrowil had a power play marker and Declan Okell found the back of the net with just three seconds left in the period. Jackson would collect the lone assist.
In the third, the visitors would score the only goal as the Timberwolves took it 5-4. Drew Tame got the start in net for Taber and made 28 saves on 33 shots.
The U13 Golden Suns will look for their first win of the season after this long weekend as they prepare for a pair of games. On Oct. 18, Taber heads to Vauxhall to take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a 6 p.m. puck drop. The following day, the team hits the road to Medicine Hat to take on the Hounds. Game time is 2 p.m.
U15
The U15 Suns were at home on Saturday as they also looked to collect their first win of the season. The Okotoks Oilers came out strong as they scored three straight goals to begin the period. Ryker Orsten would score on the powerplay to cut the lead to three as Hayden Eldridge and Nash Skanderup had helpers. The period would end with the Oilers leading 3-1.
In the second, the Oilers would add two more as they went into the final frame with a 5-1 lead. Tony King would get one back for Taber early in the period as the Suns scored another powerplay goal. Hudson Stenger and Madix Miller had the assists. Just under two minutes later, the lead was extended once again as the Oilers continued to pour it on. They would add another single before the final buzzer as Okotoks skated to a 7-2 win. Jack Lukacs made the start for Taber and had 33 saves on 40 shots.
The U15 Suns are back on the ice this weekend for a two-pack of games. On Saturday, they play host to the Foothills Bisons with puck drop at 5:15 p.m. On Sunday afternoon, the team is on the road to take on the Wheatland Warriors for a 1:15 p.m. game
U18
After a pair of tough losses to open the 2024-25 AEHL season, the U18 Golden Suns were back on the road this past weekend. With a Sunday afternoon game against CNHA Black, the Suns were hoping to collect their first win. Unfortunately, CNHA Black was just too much for the Suns as they cruised to a 7-1 win. Dalton Damon had the lone goal with Landon McEwen collecting the assist. Dagrin Bahr-Hemsing was the starting netminder, making 47 saves on 54 shots.
Next action for the U18s comes this weekend as they host the Whetland Chiefs on Saturday at 8 p.m. and the CBHA Hawks on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
