This past weekend, the Southern Alberta Chaos were back out on the road — this time to compete in Provincials. Both the Chaos and the Calgary Wranglers advanced to Provincials from the South Division of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Tier 2. After a spectacular regular season and a sweep in the first round of the playoffs, the Chaos were looking to continue to build momentum when they hit the court in St. Albert.

First up for the Chaos was a matchup against their South Division Rivals, the Calgary Wranglers. It was all tied up after three periods which meant an extra was required. Unfortunately for the Chaos, it was the Wranglers who were able to pull out the win as they took it 8-4. Connor Materi led the way for the Chaos with a hat trick while Jett Matisho had a pair of assists, Ty Hynes had a goal, and Brock Higa, Austin Sheen, and Michael Dyck all had an assist.

Looking to recoup in game two of the tournament, the Chaos lined up against the Lakeland Heat. The Chaos threw everything they had against Lakeland, but the Heat were too much as they pounced to an 11-4 victory. Dyck had four assists in the game while Sheen had two goals, and Materi and Matisho had the others.

Looking for their first win of the Provincial tournament, their third game was against the Lloydminster Xtreme. The Chaos got down early and were never able to mount a comeback as they fell 10-5. Sheen, Dyck, Ty Hanson, and Hunter Skrove all had a goal and an assist each, Parker Forrest had two assists, Materi had a goal, and Ryder Douglas chipped in with an assist.

Despite an 0-3 start, the Chaos were hoping to end things off with a win when they matched up against the Wranglers yet again in their final game. The Wranglers were once again victorious as they took it 5-2. Sheen and Skrove had the Chaos goals while Forrest and Dyck collected an assist each.

In the final, the Lakeland Heat matched up against the Lloydminster Xtreme. Thanks to a late Lakeland heat goal, the Heat emerged victorious as this year’s Provincial gold medal-winning team.
