CAHL season begins again for Oil Kings

With Christmas break over, the Taber Oil Kings saw teams return to the ice this past weekend for Central Alberta Hockey League action.

U11

There was a single game on the calendar for the U11 Oil Kings this past weekend as they took on Redcliff. In a high-scoring affair, the Oil Kings were able to carve out an 8-5 win.

Cage Holcek had a hat trick and an assist in the win while Lincoln Braun contributed two goals and two assists. Hudson Ilczynski had three assists, Luca Nielsen and Paxton Foote had a goal and an assist each, Ryden Baker had two assists, Cooper Ross had a single goal, and Tyrion Ewing had one assist. Dylan Volk made 33 saves in the Taber net.

This coming weekend sees another single game for the U11s as they welcome in Raymond on Saturday for a 10:30 a.m. puck drop.

U13

The U13 Oil Kings returned to the ice for the second half this past weekend as they hosted High Country and Vulcan.

Saturday saw High Country in town for a big offensive game for both teams. When the final buzzer sounded, High Country had collected a 10-6 win. Kash Kover and Logan Rabusic had two goals each for Taber while Dalan Blasetti had a goal and an assist, Wyatt Valgardson had a goal, and Theoren Bolig, Seth Jespersen, Samuel Hathaway, Cooper Broderson, and Benjamin Williamson each had an assist. Chance Crowson made 31 saves on 41 shots.

Sunday’s game against Vulcan was a tough one for the Oil Kings as they fell 18-3. Rabusic had a goal and an assist while Kover and Mitchell Kimoto had the other Taber goals. Aidyn Arnel Derksen made 11 saves on 20 shots while Crowson made 10 saves on 19 shots.

It’s another two-game weekend coming up for the U13 Oil Kings as they host Coaldale on Saturday for a 12:45 p.m. game and Picture Butte on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

U15

It was a two-pack for the U15 Oil Kings as they took on Lethbridge Red twice to open up 2024. On Saturday, the Oil Kings were the visiting team and they were able to blank Lethbridge 4-0. Ryder Nielsen and Kash Kover each had a goal and an assist, Lincoln Wiebe and Skylar Jensen had a goal each, and Ethan Volk had an assist. Jack Lukacs earned the win in net with an 18-save shutout.

Sunday saw Lethbridge come to Taber and the result was the same as the Oil Kings crushed to an 11-3 victory. Wiebe had four goals and three assists in the win, Julian Woordman had two goals and four assists, Jenner Workman had two goals and two assists, Nielsen had two goals and an assist, Volk had a goal and an assist, Kover had two assists, and Dallin Langhofer-Krahn, Jensen, Jaxson Badura, and Dawson Reynolds all had an assist. Brodyn Sutka made 25 saves on 28 shots in the Taber net.

Next weekend is a two-game home stand for the U15 Oil Kings as they take on Bow Island on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and Lethbridge White on Sunday with puck drop at 3:30 p.m.

U18

It was a one-game weekend for the U18s as they hosted Pincher Creek Black on Friday night. While both teams were able to provide tons of offence, it was the visitors who walked away from the rink with an 8-5 win. Taber saw Carter Jensen score a hat trick while Kayden Kress had a goal and two assists, Konnor Wiebe had a goal, and Aiden Farewell, TJ O’Grady, Ayden Umbach, and Kylan Odland all had an assist. Avery Remfert made 43 saves on 50 shots while Ty Dorin stopped 14 out of 15.

The U18 Oil Kings return to the ice with a pair of road games. On Jan. 19 they face Lethbridge White and Jan. 20 is against Fort Macleod.
