There are only a few more days left of the Central Alberta Hockey League’s tiering round and this past weekend saw Taber teams back in action.
U11
There was a single game on tap for the U11 Oil Kings as they hit the road on Sunday morning for a matchup against Redcliff.
When the final buzzer hand rang out, the Oil Kings doubled up on Redcliff as they took home an 8-4 win on the road. Lincoln Braun had a hat trick and an assist in the victory while Ryden Baker also collected a hat trick. Cage Holcek and Paxton Foote each had a goal and an assist. Dylan Volk got the start in net and made 31 saves on 35 shots.
U13
Two games came and went for the U13 Oil Kings as the team looked for some more wins.
It wasn’t a great start to the weekend for Taber as the Oil Kings were blanked 13-0 on Saturday at home at the hands of Foremost. Aidyn Derksen Arnel was busy in the crease as the netminder made 41 saves on 54 shots.
The team was able to rebound in a big way on Sunday when they edged out a 6-4 victory on the road against the Croswnest Pass. Kash Kover led the way offensively with a hat trick and an assist while Logan Rabusic had two goals and two assists. Dalan Blasetti chipped in with a goal and an assist while Mitchell Kimoto had a pair of assists, and Blake Untereiner and Samuel Hathaway had an assist each. Chance Crowson was between the pipes and made 34 saves on 38 shots.
U15
After an 0-2 weekend, the U15 Oils Kings were looking to rebound this past weekend as they suited up for another two games.
It all started on Friday night at home when Lethbridge Red came to Taber. The Oil Kings would jump out to a lead in the first period and never let go as they skated to a 5-2 win. Lincoln Wiebe had a hat trick and an assist for Taber while Ethan Volk had a goal and an assist for the home squad. Ryder Nielsen found the back of the net for a single while Skylar Jensen, Kash Kover, Jaxson Badura, and Julian Woordman all had one assist. Brodyn Sutka made the start in net and the goalie was stellar making 31 saves on 33 shots.
Saturday saw the team hit the road as they played Bow Island. It was a back-and-forth battle and neither team was able to find a game-winner as it ended 5-5. Nielsen had three of the Taber goals and added an assist while Badura had two assists, Kellon Schalk and Volk had the other Taber goals, and Wiebe and Adeline Williamson each had an assist. Jack Lukacs was the starter in the second game and it was a busy game for the netminder as he made 56 saves on 61 shots.
U18
Looking for their first win of the tiering round, the U18 Oil Kings were back on the ice for a pair of games. On Friday night, Taber was in Lethbridge for their first game of the weekend. Unfortunately for Taber, Lethbridge was able to take the game 7-4 thanks to a big third period. Kellen Lauwen had a pair of goals and an assist for Taber while Ayden Umbach and Tate Nakashima had the other Taber goals. Ty Dorin was given the crease in the first game and made 48 stops on 55 shots.
Saturday saw the team hit the road for Coaldale to take on the Cobras. In a low-scoring affair, the home team was able to take the lead in the second period and hold on for a 2-1 victory. Lauwen scored another goal for Taber while Kayden Kress and Umbach had the assists. Avery Remfert was solid in the net as the goalie made 28 saves on 30 shots.
