The hockey season is still in full swing and Taber Golden Sun teams were back on the ice as the South Central Alberta Hockey League rolls on.
Only one game was on tap this past weekend for the U13 Golden Suns as they hit the road on Friday night for a date against the Foothills Bisons. Neither team would find the back of the net in the first period, but Taber broke the tie early in the second as Delphin De Boer gave Taber a 1-0 lead thanks to a Nelson Sonna Soufo assist. Foothills would tie the game back up late in the period and it would go into the final frame tied 1-1. The third period was all Bisons as they scored three straight en route to a 4-1 win. Jack Lukacs was in net for Taber and the netminder made 26 saves on 30 shots. The Suns would fire 46 shots on the Foothills net in the game.
Next weekend sees the U13 Suns return to the ice for a pair of road games. On Saturday, the team lines up against Red Deer Parkland Transmission at 12:15 p.m. and the weekend wraps up with a game against the Olds Grizzlys on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
Likewise, the U15s also only had one game on the schedule as they hit the road to take on Medicine Hat SEAC. The home team were unruly hosts as they were able to skate to an 8-2 win. Devin Groenenboom chipped in with two assists for Taber while Truett Moeller and Chase Stronge had the goals and Foster Weatherhead had a single assist in the game. Griffin Stenger made 54 saves on 62 shots in the Taber net.
The final weekend of January sees the U15 Suns play in a pair of road games. On Saturday, the team takes on the Airdrie Lightning at 11:15 a.m. The weekend ends with a 5:15 p.m. game on Sunday against the Bow Valley Timberwolves.
