After a weekend off, the U13 Suns returned to the ice this past weekend as they welcomed in the Olds Grizzlys. The first period saw both teams score a pair of goals and a 2-2 tie held until the first intermission. Delphin De Boer had both Suns’ goals in the first period while Nelson Sonna Soufo, Hudson Stenger, and Hayden Wiscombe had an assist each.
In the second, the Suns came out scorching hot with three straight goals. Canaan Fleck had the first unassisted while Sonna Soufo had his own goal as Wiscombe had another assist, and De Boer completed the hat trick as Fleck collected an assist. With under there minutes to play, the Grizzlys scored a pair of goals only seconds apart and the Suns took a one-goal lead into the final frame.
While the second saw the Suns come out blazing, the third was the exact opposite as the Grizzlys scored five unanswered goals en route to a 9-5 victory. Ashton Jensen made 39 saves on 48 shots in the Taber net.
This coming weekend sees two games on tap for the U13 Suns. On Saturday, the team hits the road to take on the Bow Valley Timberwolves for a 2:15 p.m. puck drop. On Sunday, the team returns home to take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a 1 p.m. game.
