Oil Kings battle over weekend

The Central Alberta Hockey League is in full force now with the October portion of the schedule complete. Taber Oil King teams were back on the ice this past weekend as the tiering round continued.

U15

It was a pair of tough tests this past weekend for the U15 Oil Kings as they took on Redcliff and Picture Butte. On Saturday, Redcliff came to town and thanks to a four-goal third period, the visiting team was able to take a 7-5 victory. Jasper Sidam had a goal and two assists, Konnor Wiebe had a goal and an assist, Ayden Umbach, Lincoln Wiebe, and Skylar Jensen had a goal each, and Blaise Odland, Carter Kerkhoff, Tate Nakashima, Raiden Koizumi, and Ethan Volk had an assist each. Ty Dorin was the starting netminder, making 38 saves on 45 shots.

Sunday saw the team travel to Picture Butte to take on the Blades. When the final buzzer rang, the home team had secured a 6-4 win over Taber. Konnor Wiebe and Umbach had two goals each, while Volk had two assists, and Koizumi and Lincoln Wiebe had an assist each. Dorin was back between the pipes and made 34 saves on 40 shots.

U18

The U18 Oil Kings were back on the ice this past weekend as they took on Lethbridge Red and Lethbridge White. The Oil Kings were in Lethbridge on Friday to take on Red and Taber saw its offence come alive in a 14-4 win. Matteo Blasetti had four goals with two assists, Brant Allen had two goals and three assists, Reid Lerner had five assists, Kellen Lauwen had a hat trick and an assist, Walker Skiba had two goals and an assist, Kyler Marchuk had a goal and two assists, Ayden Umbach had a pair of goals, Kylan Odland had two assists, and Evan Friesen, Evan Untereiner, Samuel Klaas, and Brylin Brown had an assist each. Mason Van Seters faced 26 shots and made 22 saves in the Taber net.

The following night saw Lethbridge White come to Taber. After some back-and-forth scoring, the teams saw the game end 5-5. Allen had a pair of goals and assists, Untereiner had a goal and an assist, Skiba and Brown found the back of the net once each, and Konnor Wiebe, Ryan Gray, and Klaas had an assist. Van Seters was back between the pipes and made 33 saves on 38 shots.
