It’s been a busy basketball season for the St. Mary’s Auroras and now with the season over, the team has a chance to reflect on all of their accomplishments.

At the end of February, the regular season came to an end and the team started to prepare for the playoffs in River Ridge.

“The last couple weeks of the St. Mary’s Auroras basketball season was pretty hectic. They finished the last couple days of February and the first couple days of March with the River Ridge League playoffs,” said Jeff Kooiker, coach of the Auroras. “The team played fantastic against Milk River. They came out shooting well and kept the momentum rolling throughout the entire game. The final score was 54-24 for the Auroras and leading the scoring was Janae Dyck (15 points) and Logan Meier (10 points).”

From that, the Auroras were off to Vauxhall to take on the Queens for the League Championship.

“On March 3, the Auroras headed to Vauxhall for the league championship game against the Queens. The team came out slow and sluggish, but were able to claw their way back from a 17-point deficit. The team’s heart and effort throughout the game was evident, but came up just short with a 61-57 loss. Leading scorers were Janae Dyck (20 points) and Jayden DeBoer (17 points). The League All-Stars and MVP were announced at this game with MVP honours going to Jayda Kooiker and All-Stars to Logan Meier and Jayden DeBoer.”
