Oil Kings kick-off CAHL regular season

The time has come for the Taber Oil Kings to hit the ice for Central Alberta Hockey League regular-season action with the tiering round now behind them.

U11 Tier 3

The U11 Tier 3 team kicked off their season with a barnburner as they secured an 11-10 win over Vauxhall at home on Saturday. Ryder Nielsen scored four goals, Cole Swanson, Kash Kover, and Dalan Blasetti had a pair each, while Hayden Eldridge had a single tally. Nielsen, Swanson, Eldridge, and Blasetti also had two assists each, while Kover, Rowan Beckie, Charley Fletcher, and Seth Jespersen had single assists each. Brodyn Sutka faced 24 shots in the win.

Next action for the U11 Tier 3 team comes on Nov. 27 when they head to Picture Butte. On Sunday, they visit Redcliff.

U11 Tier 6

Likewise, the U11 Tier 6 Oil Kings also secured their first win of the season in their first action on Nov. 20 at home. In a lopsided first game of the weekend, the Tier 6 Oil Kings laid a beat down on Coaldale with a 14-4 win. Mitchell Kimoto and Jaxson Tychsen each had a hat trick and an assist, Blake Untereiner had two goals and two assists, Ryden Baker had two goals and an assist, Logan Rabusic, Luca Nielsen, and Lincoln Braun had a goal and an assist each, while Lennon Kover had a single goal and Barrett Devlieger had a single assist. Aidyn Derksen Arnel got the start in net.

The next day, the same result showed on the scoreboard, but this time Taber fell 14-4 against Pincher Creek. Rabusic had a pair of goals, while Kimoto and Braun had a goal and an assist each.

The U11 Tier 6 Oil Kings hit the road on Saturday for a morning match-up against Siksika.

U13 Tier 3

The U13 Oil Kings battled hard in Irvine on Saturday, but they eventually fell 7-5. Delphin DeBoer had a pair of goals and an assist, Ethan Volk and Raiden Koizumi had a goal and assist each, Julian Woordman had a single goal, and Aiden Pierzchala chipped in with a single assist. Ashton Jensen was busy in the blue case as he faced 55 shots.

Like the first game, the Oil Kings battled in a hard-fought, close game, but they were unable to pull out a win as they skated to a 5-4 loss at home to Redcliff. DeBoer would continue to light up the scoresheet as he potted all four goals for the Oil Kings. Lincoln Wiebe, Woordman, Skylar Jensen, Pierzchala, and Kellon Schalk all collected a single assist. Jack Lukacs got the start in net and faced 28 shots.

This coming weekend, the U13 team has a pair of games on the schedule. On Saturday, they head to Redcliff before returning home on Sunday morning for a 10:30 a.m. puck drop with Brooks.

U15 Tier 3

Two games were on tap for the U15 Oil Kings as they started their weekend with a 6-3 loss in Lethbridge on Saturday. Goal scoring for the Oil Kings came from Landon McEwen who potted two, and Samuel Tolsma who had one. Avery Remfert saw 41 shots fired at him in the loss.

The Oil Kings ran into a tough Magrath team on Sunday as they were handed an 8-2 loss at home. Konnor Wiebe and McEwen had a goal and an assist each, while Ryan Gray and Nathan Rijkens collected an assist each. Remfert faced 38 shots, while Ty Dorin saw 15.

Upcoming this weekend, the Oil Kings see a home game on Saturday night when Redcliff comes to town for a 5:30 p.m. puck drop. The following day, Brooks makes their way to Taber for a 1 p.m. matinee.

U18 Tier 3

The U18 Oil Kings also had two games this weekend — Nov. 20 versus Brooks on the road and Nov. 21 at home against Raymond.

No game sheet for either was available by Tuesday morning.

Nov. 27 at home against Bow Island/Foremost and Nov. 28 at home against Bassano.
