Golden Suns teams see last games of October

With the South Central Alberta Hockey League well underway, the Taber ‘AA’ Golden Suns teams have been able to get their seasons started.

U13

The U13 Golden Suns saw two games on the schedule this weekend.

In their first game of the weekend, they dominated start to finish when they faced off against Lethbridge on the road in a 10-1 win. Nixen Miller provided a goal and three assists, Devin Groenenboom had a goal and an assist, Mason Noble had a pair of goals, Ryan Serfas, Arlo Heal, Tate Serfas, Foster Weatherhead, and Liam Okell all had a goal and an assist. Truett Moeller rounded out the scoring while Curtis Martin and Heston Hansen also chipped in with a single assist. Griffin Stenger made 18 saves on 19 shots.

The second game of the weekend was a much tighter affair that saw the Suns lose a close 4-3 battle to Medicine Hat Hounds Orange at home. Miller continued his hot play with a goal and two assists, while Noble had a goal and an assist, Groenenboom had a goal and Yanming Chen found the scoresheet with an assist. Liam Slomp made 26 saves on 30 shots.

The Suns sit in third place in the South Conference with eight points in six games. They have a single game on tap this coming weekend when they welcome in the Wheatland Braves on Sunday for a 1 p.m. puck drop.

U15

After dismantling the Foothills Bisons the previous weekend, the Golden Suns welcomed the same team back to their home barn on Saturday night. It was much of the same for the Suns as they claimed another defeat over Foothills in an 8-4 win. Scoring came from Koye Larson (two goals and two assists), Jett Marisho (one goal, three assists), Nathan Planger (one goal, one assist), Barrett Van Nistelrooy (one goal, one assist), Cage Smith (one goal) and Garret Janzen (one goal). Other Suns finding the scoresheet included Tyson Church, Tage Jensen, and Chase Stronge, who each collected a single assist. Cashton Carriere made 26 saves on 30 shots.

The Golden Suns next game comes on Nov. 13 when the Lethbridge Hurricanes come to Taber. The U15  currently sits it fourth place in the South Conference with six points.

U18

The U18 Suns were in tough this weekend against the NWCAA Stamps. With the team welcoming in the Stamps at the Taber Arena, they were overmatched as the opposing team skated to a 12-3 win.

Brinley Degenstein, Jasper Lyle, and Connor Eldridge found the back of the net for the Suns, while Rylan Millo had an assist. Both Suns’ netminders got into the game as Landon Porteous allowed eight goals on 20 shots and Kieran Hancock allowed four goals on 14 shots.

The team sees two games on tap this coming weekend as they hit the road to Wheatland on Friday to face the Chiefs and Calgary on Sunday to play CHNA Black. The U18 Suns currently sit in fifth place in the South Division with four points.
