Midget Golden Suns earn win

Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns (2-5-) managed a split in its South Central Alberta Hockey League games over the weekend.

The Golden suns easily managed Foothills Bisons (1-6-0) in a 6-1 victory on Friday night.

The Suns had a whopping 16 power play opportunities and converted on four of them with goals from Jayden Kostiuk, Josh Verloop, Carter DeBoer and Alonso Tapia Ruiz.

Even-strength goals were scored by DeBoer and Rylan Millo. Cody Stange drew three assists.

Aidan Low earned the win in net, facing 22 shots on goal.

The midget Golden Suns proceeded to drop a 5-2 decision Olds Grizzlys (4-3-) on Saturday.

Millo and Tristan Miller scored for the Suns. Kolby James had two assists.

Low took the loss in net, facing 29 shots on goal.

Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns hit the road on Friday against Foothills Bisons before returning home to the Taber Arena on Sunday with a game at 3:30 p.m. against Airdrie Lightning.

BANTAM: Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns (1-6-3) skated to a 4-4 draw with Airdrie Lightning (4-2-3) on the road on Saturday, rallying back form a three-goal deficit.

Riley Preachuk, Chance Loke, Connor Chapman and Brady Magarrell scored for the Suns.

Keegan Stenger helped preserve the tie in net, having a busy game in goal, facing 39 shots.

Taber bantam “AA” Golden suns host Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. at the Taber Arena.

The team then hits the road on Saturday in a game against Foothills Bisons. The busy weekend concludes with a home game against Medicine Hat Hounds on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Taber Arena.

PEEWEE: Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns (9-2-0) earned victories in both its road games against West Central Tigers (5-4-0) and Airdrie Lightning Red (2-5-0).

The Golden Suns doubled up the Tigers 6-3 on Saturday.

Cage Smith netted the hat trick and Jett Matisho had two tallies. Rhett Serfas had a single. Colby Gulliver and Kayden Yeaman had two assists each.

Brylin Noble earned the win in net, facing 28 shots on goal.

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns proceeded to trample the Lightning 9-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Serfas had the hat trick and Cage Smith and Yeaman each had two goals apiece. Noah Smith and Gulliver had singles. Serfas, Noah Smith, and Gulliver all had two assist apiece.

Cason Van Hal had to only stop eight shots to earn the shutout.

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns host Chestermere Lakers on Saturday at the Taber Arena at 3 p.m. The team then hits the road on Sunday with a game against Wheatland Braves.
