Suns split in SCAHL play

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns (16-6-1) split its pair of South Central Alberta Hockey league games over the weekend.

The team earned a 6-4 win over Lethbridge Hurricanes White (15-6-1) on the road on Friday.

Aidyn Law tallied twice and Brady Magarrell, Colby Gulliver, Kade Duell and Oscar Oliveros had singles. Duell and Magarrell also drew three assists each. Kahil Wright earned the win in net, facing 30 shots on goal.

Saturday’s tilt was a 6-3 road loss to Medicine Hat Hounds (20-1-2).

Law had two goals and Duell had a single. Brylin Noble (9) and Wright (41) split goaltending duties, facing a combined 50 shots on goal.

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns have a homestand this weekend with a Saturday game against Cranbrook Wings at the Taber Arena at 12:45 p.m. The team also hosts Olds Grizzlys on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Taber Arena.

BANTAM: Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns (7-13-3) played .500 hockey on the weekend, starting off with a 6-1 victory over Foothills Bisons (2-23-0) on the road on Saturday evening.

Nathan Verloop potted the hat trick and Rylan Millo, Jackson Nault and Riley Preachuk had singles. Millo also had two assists.

Landon Porteous had the win in net, facing 25 shots on goal.

The bantam Suns followed up with a 6-3 loss at the hands of Olds Grizzlys (9-9-5) on the road on Sunday afternoon.

Verloop scored twice more and Hunter VanVaernbergh had a single.

Scout Sidam had a busy game in net, facing 59 shots on goal in the loss.

Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns host Central Alberta Selects on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Taber Arena.

The team then travels to Okotoks on Sunday to battle the Oilers.
