Western Hockey League adversaries matched up for a pre-season game in Taber on the weekend.
The Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Medicine Hat Tigers played the second of their two head to head pre-season games at the Taber Arena, the first was played in Lethbridge at Nicholas Sheran.
The Tigers walked away with their second win in as many days over their Highway 3 rival with a final score of 5-3 on the backs of two-goal performances from Mark Rassell and Josh Williams. Ryan Chyzowski potted an empty netter to sink the Canes late in the third.
The Canes on the other hand had a two goal game from Ryan Vandervlis and Dylan Cozens chipped in with the team’s other goal.
Rookie Bryan Thomson got the start in the crease for the Canes allowing four goals on 28 shots.
The Tigers split crease time between their two tenders with Garin Bjorklund seeing 32 minutes of action with three goals allowed on 18 shots and Kaeden Lane came in relief and faced the same amount of shots without allowing a goal.
Both teams will continue on with pre-season action before once again starting the regular season with a home and home series.
In the past three years, the two have split the series evenly when opening up the regular season.
Opening night will commence on September 22 when the Hurricanes host the Tigers at the Enmax Centre. Puck drop is at 7 p.m and the following night will be in Medicine Hat with the game starting at 7:30 p.m.
