The Southern Alberta Summer Games are quickly approaching, and the Town of Taber is encouraging everyone in the area to consider registering to be part of the M.D. of Taber team.
The Games offer southern Albertans the chance to participate in friendly competition in a number of different sports, ranging from badminton, track and field, archery, golf, soccer, and many more. Hosted by the City of Brooks and County of Newell this year, the games are being held from July 5-8 in Brooks.
“These games are a fantastic way for the residents of Taber and area to show their talent and abilities to all of southern Alberta,” said Emily Bradbury, one of the regional directors for the M.D. of Taber team. “No matter your skill level, you are welcome to register.”
Taber’s regional team encompasses the Town of Taber, M.D. of Taber, Vauxhall, Barnwell, Enchant, Grassy Lake, Cranford and Hays.
In 2016, there were 264 athletes and 24 coaches on the M.D. of Taber team who won a total of 226 medals, coming in second only to the City of Lethbridge team which was the host.
The year 2017 is shaping up to be one of the best years ever, and the Town of Taber would love to see even more athletes and coaches participate.
The registration deadline is on June 2, with a $15 entry fee. No late entries will be accepted.
Each registrant will also receive an M.D. of Taber team shirt. Those interested in registering can do so by dropping in to the Grey Room of the Community Centre in Taber (A 4720 50th Street) from 8 a.m.-12 noon and 1-4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
