Peewee Suns split homestand against Eagles

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns (10-12-3) split its pair of South Central Alberta Hockey League games at the Taber Arena against the Cranbrook Eagles (4-17-6).

The Suns doubled up the Eagles 4-2 on Friday night.

Nolan Price potted the hat trick in the win with Colby Garner getting a single. Nathan Verloop and Kaden Walburger had two assists apiece. Carter Deboer and Rylen Roersma both had assists. Scout Sidam earned the win in net, stopping 29 of 31 shots on goal.

The Suns were then edged 5-4 by the same Eagles team on Saturday night at the Taber Arena.

The Golden Suns were victims of special teams play, surrendering a short-handed goal and two power play tallies, including the game winner for the Eagles with 7:19 left to play in the third period.

Verloop had the hat trick and Braeden Sheppard scored a single. Walburger had two assists, with Gerret Harty, Garner, Deboer, Sheppard and Price drawing single assists.

Brenden Olson took the loss in net, facing 32 shots on goal.

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns travel on Saturday to take on Lethbridge Hurricanes Red before returning home on Sunday to take on Hurricanes Red at 1 p.m. at the Taber Arena in the home-and-home series.

BANTAM: Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns (16-5-4) doubled up Okotoks Oilers (15-8-3) 4-2 in its lone SCAHL game on the weekend.

Derrien Tonin tallied twice in the win with James Halverson and Grady Honess notching singles. Hayden Mack had two assists with single helpers going to Seth McCulloch, Darian Virostek, Mason Sande, Brady Howg and Brandon Hauk.

Brayden Peters had a huge game in goal for the Golden Suns, stopping 36 of 38 shots to earn the win as the Suns were outshot nearly two-to-one in the game.

Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns currently sit in second place in the South Division, two points behind Wheatland Warriors with a game in hand.

Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns are the road on Friday night against the Cranbrook Hornets.

MIDGET: Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns (10-13-4) had a tough weekend of South Central Alberta Hockey League play, as the squad dropped both of its contests.

The team was doubled up 6-3 by Okotoks Oilers (15-8-2) on the road on Saturday that saw the game’s exchange two power play tallies apiece in the game’s first four goals.

Clay Nevil, Justin Astalos and Brock Palmer scored for the Golden Suns. Kaden Fujita and Logan Wiebe registered assists.
Broc Merkl took the loss in net, facing 35 shots on goal.

The team proceeded to drop a 5-1 game against Medicine Hat Hounds (9-13-2) at the Vauxhall Recreation Centre on Sunday.

Linden Gouw scored the lone Suns tally, getting assists from Kaleb Many Fingers and Logan Middleton. Seth Graham took the loss in net as he and Merkl shared goaltending duties.

Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns are on the road on Friday night against Medicine Hat Hounds and then travel to Calgary on Sunday to take on CBHA Blackhawks.
