Midget Suns inch closer to .500

Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns (7-9-2) had a solid weekend of South Central Alberta Hockey League play by earning a tie and win at the Taber Arena.

The Suns started its weekend off with a 3-3 tie against Okotoks Oilers Green (6-8-1) on Friday night.

Chase Gedny had two goals and Brant Mack notched a single.

Kaleb Many Fingers drew two assists and Logan Kiss, Brock Palmer and Brandon Langridge had single helpers.

Broc Merkl was solid in net, facing 45 shots to earn the tie.

The squad then doubled up CBHA Rangers (7-2) 6-3 on Saturday.

Palmer and Gedny each had two goals apiece and Logan Wiebe and Langridge had singles.

Palmer also drew three assists with Gedny getting two helpers. Wiebe, Many Fingers and Justin Astalos had single assists.

Special teams proved big for the Suns who got three goals on the power play and another shorthanded.

Merkl earned the win in net for the Golden Suns, facing 39 shots.

Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns are at home this Friday night with an 8:30 p.m. game against Wheatland Chiefs at the Taber Arena.

The team then hits the road against the same Chiefs squad on Saturday.

PEEWEE: Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns (6-6-2) earned a single point in the South Central Alberta Hockey League standings with a loss and a tie over the weekend.

The team was shut out by Okotoks Oilers Black (8-9-1) 4-0 on Saturday on the road.

Brenden Olson took the loss in net, facing 24 shots.

The team managed to skate to a 7-7 draw with Airdrie Lightning (14-1-1), the top team in the North Division, on Sunday at the Taber Arena.

Nolan Price and Nathan Verloop both had two goals apiece while Carson Haynes, Rylen Roersma and Wyatt Broderson had singles.

Price and Roersma also had three assists each. Verloop and Haynes each had two assists apiece.

Gerret Harty, Carson Cleland, Carter Deboer and Kaden Walburger had single assists.

Olson earned the win in net, facing 41 shots on goal.

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns are on the road this weekend with a Friday night game against Lethbridge Hurricanes White, followed by a Saturday game against Okotoks Oilers Green.

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns finish off with a road game against Lethbridge Hurricanes Red on Sunday.

BANTAM: Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns return to SCAHL play this weekend with a game against Bow Valley Timberwolves on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Vauxhall Arena. The team then hits the road on Sunday to play Wheatland Warriors.
