AFSC recruiting ag prospects for industry positions

During the 2024 Ag Expo there was, an event called ‘thinkAg: Career Fair hosted by Ag for Life where youth from Coalhurst, Kate Andrews School, Picture Butte, Cardston, W.R. Myers in Taber, and Warner School came to learn from professionals associated with the agriculture industry. 

During that event, Kayla Elliott, Relationship Manager in Agribuisness for AFSC in the Lethbridge branch office, and Tamara Ebelher, Relationship Manager for Lending with AFSC in the Taber branch office, spoke about career opportunities associated with AFSC.

Ebelher began by explaining that AFSC does crop insurance, livestock insurance, income stabilization and lending. 

“AFSC provides crop insurance for annual and perennial crops, as well as honey and bees over-wintering, and livestock insurance as a risk management tool to allow producers to purchase price protection on cattle and hogs,” said Ebelher. “AFSC also helps with income stabilization so producers can manage their risk through a suits of business risk management programs, and AFSC supports agriculture producers, commercial and, agribusinesses through their lending programs.” 

After both sharing how they got into their careers, Ebelher and Elliott explained that there are many different career opportunities within AFSC, an organization with 39 offices across the province that have been serving Alberta for 80 over years, with 30,000 clients in 558 Alberta communities.

The positions available within AFSC, Ebehler and Elliot said, include main branch opportunities that are client facing, and also include Relationship Manager Insurance, Adjuster Trainee, Client Care Agent, Relationship Manager Lending, and Lending Associate.

The post-secondary summer student opportunities, Ebehler and Elliott said, include Insurance, Adjusting, Lending, Client Care, Finance, End User Support, GIS, Data Science, Product and Innovation, and Strategy and Innovation.
