Constable Brandon Demers was recently hired to be part of the Taber Police Service’s Regional Community Standards Unit.

“I’m currently positioned as the Regional Community Center Officer and my main function is to enforce Town bylaws within the Town of Taber and the M.D. Taber,” Demers, 23, said. “I also enforce Criminal Code statutes.”

Demers says that what brought him into the work is that he actually loves people.

“I love being around the community,” Demers said. “You get to be a part of the community, you get to new community events, you are expected to be a part of the community. The job stood out to me and made me apply.”

Originally from southern Alberta, Demers received his diploma in Criminal Justice from Medicine Hat College. According to the Town of Taber’s Instagram page, Demers has prior work experience within the security field in Medicine Hat. Prior to this job, Demers says that he’s spent multiple years of service with his family as well as serving a two-year service mission in Phoenix, Ariz. for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

“As of right now, I’m loving this job,” Demers said. “I have no reason to say that I want to go anywhere else. My goals currently are to just learn the job and learn to grow within the community.”

Demers says that his biggest goal right now is to focus on himself, building himself up, and be the best that he can be for not only the Taber Police Service, but for the town and himself because that’s what the town has: great, outstanding officers and he wants to live up to that.

“The biggest advice that I can say right now is just be humble with yourself and know that you can’t do everything in one day,” Demers said. “But it’s little things that count. Do little things, focus on the little wins, and you’ll build up and you’ll become a great officer. What I’ve seen, many others of my coworkers in the Town of Taber and within the Taber Police basically doing the little things really well. I’m excited to not (only) raise my family here, but also to grow myself and reach out to the community.”
