The following are series of recent updates from the M.D. and Town of Taber fire departments.
M.D. of Taber Fire
July 19: In the early morning, Stations 4 and 7 responded to a report of an electrical hazard and a small grass fire.
July 20: Stations 4 and 7 (MDFD & Barnwell) as well as Station 2 (Grassy Lake) responded to a bale stack fire.
Town of Taber Fire Department
July 20: In the early morning, the Taber Fire Department was paged out for a smoke investigation at a local hotel. On arrival the duty officer was advised a bathroom fan had caught fire and an extinguisher was used but there was still a lot of smoke filling the building. Firefighters were able to gain access to the attic and found the smoldering fire in the insulation and rafters. The fire was extinguished and damage was limited to a single dwelling unit. All trucks and members were cleaned up and back in service at 05:30hrs.
July 21: As of 5 p.m. (July 21st), a fire ban is in effect for the Town of Taber. It does not affect backyard fire pits within the town (or the Ken MacDonald and Trout Pond campgrounds) provided the fires are in compliance with the Fire Services Bylaw 5-2016. To see the bylaw, visit http://www.taber.ca/bylaws
The ban is in effect until conditions change which reduce the extreme fire hazard.
