While family farms are recognized every year at Calgary Stampede, the Municipal District of Taber is looking to implement their own award as well.

The award would be called the 100 Year Family Farm Award and it would recognize generational farm families within the municipality. Administration’s report also explained that several municipalities across the province offer similar awards to their residents. With many M.D. families being recognized at the Calgary Stampede, some on council wanted to make sure they were included.

“I don’t think there are that many that have received that award in the past and to include them would be a very good token gesture to kickstart the program. And not forget those that predated when our program starts,” stated Coun. Brian Hildebrand. “And keep that ongoing for those that received a provincial award to identify them and have a communication with them that this award is available municipally as well,” added Hildebrand.

Within the policy, there are two different options to apply — the Heritage Homestead Farm Family and Pioneer Farm Family.
