Fundraisers for the Taber Food Bank will be picking back up once again this month after taking July off.
First up comes the Vegetable Garden BBQ which will be hosted on Aug. 20. Next is the Cornfest 50/50 Draw — potentially one of the largest fundraisers for the food bank in 2022.
Additionally at Cornfest, they are looking for volunteers to man the booth, Plinko game, and sales for the tickets between Aug. 25 to Aug. 27. On Aug. 28, they are looking for volunteers to help with sorting bottles and cans.
After the Cornfest 50/50 comes the Red Bag Food Drive on Sept. 20. The newsletter states, “We are looking for volunteers that will go around Taber and Barnwell to gather our donations for us on Tuesday, September 20 starting at 6 p.m. This opportunity is open for everyone, including youth groups that are looking for something to do. Contact our office at (403) 223-1833 for more information.”
For July, the Taber Food Bank highlighted one of their summer students, Love Acojedo.
Acojedo notes she is an alumni of St. Mary’s School and will be going into her second semester at the University of Lethbridge this fall with a major in Accounting.
“Volunteering in the community has been something I was very drawn to. I was part of the Taber Youth Do Crew during my last years in high school and that experience helped me see how far the community is willing to go to help others. Through the Taber Food Bank, I was the tight-knit bond between the volunteers and employees and their utmost generosity for their clients. It has been rewarding to become a part of it,” said Acojedo.
As for stats, in June, the food bank had 565 pick-shelf visits over 18 days, distributed 486 litres of milk, handed out 492 pre-made sandwiches, and shared 2,236.5 pounds of food with other local agencies and organizations.
