The Municipal District of Taber has approved a few new purchases for the Public Works department.

At M.D. of Taber council’s regular meeting on Jan. 11, councillors were updated on two new capital budget items.

The first item brought forward was for a Bobcat track loader. In the 2022 capital budget, the M.D. had planned for a difference of $45,000 and the low quote the received was for a Bobcat T770 Track Loader and bucket, and trade-in the existing unit for a difference of $19,900 plus GST.

“We’ve kept this machine for two years and it’s got about 1,100 hours on it. The actual quoted difference on the machine was $14,900 and $5,000 for a new bucket so that’s why you’re looking at $19,9000 on there. So overall dollars per hour, the trade-ins are very reasonable. We’re quite impressed and we had budgeted a $45,000 difference, so there’s quite a bit of room there,” added Stu Weber, director of Public Works. “This machine is mostly used on construction so we get quite a few hours on it.”
