Taber town council appointments

Participation by councillors on boards, committees and commissions is an incredibly important aspect of the position — allowing them to interact with more members of the community and see grievances brought up that may not make it to council.

The Oct. 25 organizational meeting of council was the first meeting of the new council, and as such called for such appointments.

Coun. Joanne Sorensen and Coun. Carly Firth were appointed to the Arts and Heritage Committee

Mayor Andrew Prokop, Coun. Garth Bekkering and Coun. Sorensen were appointed to the Audit Committee while Coun. Firth was appointed as an alternate member.

Coun. Jack Brewin and Coun. Monica McLean were appointed to the Municipal Planning Commission.

Coun. Bekkering, Coun. Brewing and Coun. Alf Rudd were appointed to the Emergency Management Committee with Mayor Prokop as an alternate member.

Coun. McLean was appointed to the Library Board.

Coun. Firth and Coun. Sorensen were appointed to the Taber Municipal Police Commission.

Coun. Brewin and Coun. Sorensen were appointed to the Taber Recreation Board.

Coun. Bekkering was appointed to the Barons-Eureka-Warner Family and Community Services Board.

Coun. McLean was appointed to the Chinook Arch Regional Library System Board.

Coun. Bekkering, Coun. Brewin and Coun. Rudd were appointed to the Intermunicipal Development Committee.

Coun. McLean and Coun. Sorensen were appointed to the Joint Economic Development Committee.

Coun. Firth was appointed to the Taber and District Chamber of Commerce Board.

Coun. Bekkering was appointed to the Taber Exhibition Association Board.

Coun. Bekkering and Coun. Rudd were appointed to the Taber and District Handibus Association Board.

Coun. Rudd was appointed to the Taber and District Housing Foundation Board.

Coun. McLean and Coun. Firth were appointed to the Taber and District Waste Management Committee.

All appointments are valid until the next organizational meeting taking place in 2022.

Additionally, there were also committees that requested a council member appointment:

Coun. Brewin was appointed to the Highway 3 Twinning Committee.

Mayor Prokop was appointed to the Mayors/Reeves Meeting.

Coun. Brewin and Coun. Sorensen were appointed to the Shared Services Committee.

Coun. Rudd was appointed to the SouthGrow Regional Initiative with Coun. McLean as an alternate member.

Coun. Firth was appointed to the Traffic Committee.

Coun. Brewin was appointed to the Veterans Memorial Highway Committee.

Coun. Rudd was appointed to the AUMA Police Act Review Board.

Mayor Prokop was appointed to the Eagle Spirit Nest Community Association.

Coun. Rudd was appointed to the Taber and District Museum Society.

Mayor Prokop, Coun. Brewin and Coun. Firth were appointed to the West Trail Extension Project Committee.

Lastly, the terms for the role of Deputy Mayor were presented and accepted by council:

Coun. Sorensen will serve between Nov. 1, 2021 to Jun. 30, 2022.

Coun. Firth will serve between Jul. 1, 2022 to Feb. 28, 2023.

Coun. Rudd will serve between Mar. 1, 2023 to Oct. 31 2023.

Coun. Bekkering will serve between Nov. 1, 2023 to Jun. 30 2024.

Coun. McLean will serve between Jul. 1, 2024 to Feb. 28, 2025.

Coun. Brewing will serve between Mar. 1 2025 to Oct. 20, 2025.
