Contract awarded for work on 52nd Avenue

The Town of Taber has awarded a six-figure contract for underground work on 52nd Avenue to Black Diamond contractor Elite Site Services.

The 52nd Street Sanitary and Water Replacement Project was approved by council in the 2019 capital budget for $982,000.

Major work items include 232 metres of 200 mm sanitary line replacement, two new manholes, connection to existing manholes, and sanitary bypass pumping. Also slated for replacement is 230 metres of 250 mm water pipe, including valves, connections to the existing water system, and temporary water servicing.

The project will also replace 3,600 square metres of asphalt road restoration, including asphalt removal, waste excavation, subgrade preparation, granular materials, prime coat, “asphaltic materials”, and tile drain. Some 21 sanitary and water service replacements have been allowed for, including reconnection, main crossings, and surface works replacement (grass, concrete, pavement).

Tenders were received from eight companies, and include a 10 per cent work allowance, a five per cent tree replacement allowance, and five per cent GST. These bids consisted of Elite Site Services (Black Diamond) $803,362.78; UG Excavating Ltd. (Calgary) $895,620.92; Ground Tech Enterprises Inc. (Taber) $929,852.28; McNally Contractors Ltd. (Lethbridge) $1,021,264.76; Tollestrup Construction Inc. (Lethbridge) $1,258,054.31; Industrial Backhoes Ltd. (Medicine Hat) $1,357,351.28; BYZ Enterprises Ltd. (Medicine Hat) $1,512,462; and PME Inc. (Okotoks) $1,600,426.80.

Following discussion, council voted unanimously to award the 52nd Street Sanitary and Water Replacement tender to Elite Site Services for $803,362.78 (GST included).
