Sending a letter of congratulations from the Town of Taber on the Notley NDP’s appointment of Minister Shaye Anderson to the Municipal Affairs portfolio was not met with universal support by town council.

“We have a new minister of Municipal Affairs as you know,” said Coun. Laura Ross-Giroux during the council requests portion of that body’s Jan. 23 regular meeting. “Perhaps as a council we can send a letter congratulating him on his appointment, and that we look forward to working together with him.”

Following brief discussion, council voted 5-2 to direct administration to send a letter to the new minister of Municipal Affairs, congratulating him on his appointment, and that council looks forward to working with him in the future. Coun. (s) Jack Brewin and Randy Sparks opposed the motion.

Anderson is MLA for Leduc-Beaumont, and worked with Telus as a telecommunications technician in the County of Leduc prior to his election.
