Thoughts on the truck convoy

Dear Editor:

It is unfortunate that the high esteem that we the people hold for the truckers of Canada could be badly blemished by the unwise action of a small percentage of their brotherly and sisterly fraternity

I say high esteem because that is how much I respect them (both men and women). I find them courteous on the road, exemplary drivers and law-abiding professionals. How many times have we felt grateful to be following a big semi in a heavy snowstorm as he plots the road for us; how often have we seen a trucker waiting extra minutes for oncoming traffic from both ways to clear before he makes his perpendicular entry onto the highway and how often does he flash lights to give warnings to oncoming vehicles! If I were in trouble on the road and needed help, I would hope a trucker would come by for I know he/she would likely stop to assist me.

It’s hard to imagine that the truckers I know would drive thousands of kilometres to park in front of ordinary homes for days blowing their horns at night, blocking the roadways so that residents can’t get to their places of work, causing the closure of businesses by the insensitive presence of their vehicles, welcoming protesters of every type with a highly goal and worst of all setting up a “go fund me” plea on line to financially support their goal.

The right to protest is a given in our great democracy but stooping to behaviour that negatively affects the safety, mental and physical health, source of personal income and freedom from fear is not justifiable regardless of the imagined worthiness of the cause. They want freedom, they say, but how many innocent others are losing theirs at the expense of a group that blindly and selfishly pushes for idealistically not well-thought-out methods.

Where are the many highly respected trucker leaders who can promote an end to this madness? Please stand forth for the sake of the whole country.

Freedom from COVID?

Dear Editor:

Freedom? Freedom from COVID…get your vaccination(three times) set me free? Freedom from masks…masks are still mandatory. Freedom from lockdowns…government will lockdown at their will. Freedom of speech…only speech the state deems worth while to hear …I myself have been censored and deemed unworthy of freedom of the press.

Freedom from gatherings..family, Christmas, Easter, Remembrance Day, all locked down for two years to name a few. Freedom convoy…I truly believe this protest will be a last stand for freedom against a corrupt government and the mandates it has and will impose in the near future, if not brought to task!

Stand up for Canada today!

Hunter attending blockade is not acceptable

Dear Editor:

I would like to comment on the disgraceful actions of Grant Hunter this weekend.

For those not aware, the Taber-Warner MLA participated in the illegal blockade at the border this weekend.

Many good innocent Albertans were blocked, delayed, and inconvenienced by the actions of those at the Coutts border plus many deliveries of important goods were delayed while Grant Hunter visited and tweeted his support of the illegal blockade.

While I fully support everyone’s right to protest, and I highly encourage you to express those rights, your right to protest should not infringe on the rights of other Albertans. Grant Hunter, you are an MLA.

You have a responsibility to EVERY Albertan. Where is your support for everyone that was blockaded against their will and delayed for hours or more?

How about your support for the RCMP trying to do their jobs and clear the blockade?

You can tweet after the fact that you believe that the blockade should let people through but that doesn’t negate the fact that you were supporting an illegal blockade, and not a legal protest, in the first place.

For shame!

Great comments, you have all nailed it. My 8 year old grandson said it best. Why are these adults so afraid of a little needle it hurts but wasn’t that scary.
These phony conservatives, Reformers, under Jason Kenney have proven how stupid they are. Now that they have driven 140 doctors out of our health care system by the way they were treated they want to waste another $6 million of taxpayers money trying to buy replacements for the doctors who should never have been driven out in the first place. They have put us seniors in a terrible mess.

Drew Barnes must be proud of how he refused to list to the doctors and found it smart to keep businesses open and increase the spread of covid killing more people. Putting keeping businesses open ahead of saving people’s lives didn’t make him look very smart. We know our hero Peter Lougheed would have been a lot smarter than these stupid Reformers. Trying to destroy our mountains and pollute our waters with coal mining was just one more stupid idea. While Kenney spread his lies that it was done safely he ignored that fact that Teck Coal Limited had been fined $60 million by Fisheries Canada for polluting waters in B.C. and Montana.

  2. Fedup Conservative says:

We city folk hope our rural families and friends will side with us and get these Reformers kicked out in the next election, like reformer Erin O’Toole was. There is nothing conservative about any of them, as former MLAs from the Lougheed era taught me. “Don’t ever trust a Reformer”. Lougheed’s energy Minister Bill Dickie was a brother in-law of one of my uncles, and Jason Kenney and Erin O’Toole have certainly proven why you shouldn’t.

Supporting these 10% of trucking criminals, afraid of a little needle, creating a nightmare for the 90% who just want to do their jobs and get their loads to markets proves what fools these Reformers are, doesn’t it?
