Posted on June 8, 2016 by Taber Times

Huge congratulations to L.T. Westlake Fine Arts Elementary School. They hosted week-long celebrations during Education Week in Alberta (May 2-6, 2016) to honour multi-culturalism in our community. Activities included delicious food tasting throughout the week, of prepared dishes from various cultures. Cultural groups such as Japanese dancers, Metis Jigger, L.T. Westlake Choir, the Bhangra, and East Indian dance performance, First Nations flutist, hoop dancer and a story-telling group entertained our students and community.

On Wednesday evening closed with the talented Japanese Taiko drum group from Lethbridge. There were also displays set up throughout our school. We celebrated and learned more about the East Indian, First Nations, Filipinio, South Korean, Japanese and Mexican Mennonite peoples. Students in the school exhibited their cultural projects such as dreamcatchers, teepees, Japanese paper lanterns and endeavours on learning more about India, Peru and Tunisia. There was lots to see and participate in.

The organizing committee, consisting of Tom Filgas, Catherine Turcato and Bonnie Sawatzky, wish to thank all those that helped plan, organize and contribute to a great educational experience for our students and Taber community.
