Thanks for the memories 2013

Posted on December 31, 2013 by Taber Times

Looking back at Y2K and 2012, one has to laugh — nothing happened, except for the dawn of a new day on the morn of a new year, the exchange of tacky calendars and resolutions to be unfulfilled.

2013 is behind us, as 2014 brings with it the promise of one heck of a great year for one and all.

A new year is therapeutic but frightening for some. Goals are achieved but some goals are simply not in the cards.

When 365 days come to an end, another 365 days are just around the corner — to be lived and used responsibly. A new year should be a cathartic experience, as Canadians move forward into a year of prosperity, good health and dreams come true.

Last year, 2012, the world was supposed to end. But, fortunately, it didn’t.

On New Year’s Eve 1999, no one knew what would happen, but there was speculation, as the year 2000 was on its way. People feared planes would fall out of the sky, blackouts would occur throughout entire cities, computers would crash and the world as we knew it in the late 1990s was about to change. But it didn’t.

It’s 14 years later and the world has changed tremendously since the 1990s. 2014 is a fresh start, a clean slate and brand new vehicle in which to drive.

On the morning of Jan. 1, 2014 get in the driver’s seat and tell everyone in the New Year to hold on tight, as you travel to the next destination in your life. Turn up the tunes, kick cruise control into gear and sit back and relax — while you transform into the new you or if you choose, stay put and comfortable and content, if that’s how you want to roll.

A fact of life is — the days in life are numbered. For the next 365 days — take it to the limit, reach the top of the peak and be. Don’t let fear persuade you to settle for less. Of course, be reasonable and take the necessary precautions but put fear in the back seat, where it belongs. Don’t let it be a back seat driver. You control the direction of the year and you hold the keys to a better tomorrow.

Live in the moment. Seize the day. Keep on keepin’ on. Live long and prosper. May the force be with you. These are all great mantras, especially when adapting and perhaps transforming from one year to the next. 2014 looks like a great year to travel, to learn something new, to create change, or to achieve goals. Instead of reacting be proactive and take the necessary steps to persevere, even if that means being the best basement dwelling video game player in the universe.

Today is the day. Tomorrow is yet another chance. There are 365 chances each and every New Year to do whatever it is an individual wants or needs to do.

Happy New Year and may 2014 bring you and your family happiness and health.
