CAHL season wraps up November schedule

Taber Oil Kings saw the final games of November as the second week of Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL) regular season action continued.

U11 Tier 3

Only one game was on tap for the U11 Tier 3 squad as they were in Brooks on Sunday morning. Heading into the third period, Taber found themselves in a 3-1 deficit, but thanks to a pair of quick strikes, the game was all tied up. Neither team was able to find a game winner, and it ended tied 3-3. Ethan Ausmus had two of the Taber goals, while Vaughn Emelson had the other, and Dirk Devries collected an assist. Avi Rex was solid between the pipes with 32 saves on 35 shots.

The U11 Tier 3 team is back on the ice this weekend for a single game. On Saturday, they head to Magrath for a 1 p.m. puck drop.

U11 Tier 5

Two games came and went for the U11 Tier 5 Oil Kings as they started the weekend at home on Saturday against Brooks Red. Taber scored early and often en route to a 10-1 victory. Cooper Feldbusch led the way with a hat trick and two assists, Rory Nagai scored and had three assists, Joel Visser scored twice and added an assist, and Mya Braun and Jovian Beebe each potted a pair of goals. Luke Kramer, Tommi Stang, and Levi Spengler all notched an assist. Zayne Cody was between the pipes and posted a 28-save performance.

To wrap up the weekend, the Oil Kings were on the road Sunday to take on Redcliff White. This time, the opposition was the one to hit double digits as Taber fell 10-0. Cody was back in net and made 30 saves on 40 shots.

Next weekend sees a rematch between Redcliff White and Taber as they head to Vauxhall for a 3:45 p.m. puck drop.

U13

It was two road games this past weekend for the U13 Oil Kings as they started Saturday against Foothills. Despite taking a one-goal third-period lead, Taber was unable to seal the deal as the game ended tied 6-6. Ryden Baker had a hat trick for Taber, while Cage Holcek scored and added two assists, Cooper Ross scored twice, and Hudson Ilczynski, Arlo Van Geest, and Kalum Turcato all had an assist. Rhett Wright took to the net and made 22 saves on 28 shots.

Sunday took the Oil Kings to Cardston for a high-scoring affair. In a back-and-forth battle, Taber was unable to find a late-game tying goal as they fell 9-8. Madden Wright posted a hat trick, Holcek scored two more goals, Baker, Tyrion Ewing, and Van Geest all scored, and Luke Engwer, Ross, and Nate Antosko had an assist. Kohen Ilczynski made 31 saves on 40 shots in the Taber net.

December starts with a single game this coming weekend when Taber heads to Raymond on Saturday for a 6:15 p.m. puck drop.

U15

The U15 Oil Kings were in search of a pair of wins this past weekend. Friday night saw the team on the road to take on Lethbridge White. Lethbridge would score the only goal in the third period and take the game 3-2. Mitchell Kimoto and Oliver Turnbull had the Taber goals while Samuel Hathaway, Baron Stang, and Wyatt Valgardson notched an assist each. Aidyn Arnel-Derksen was in net and made 17 saves on 20 shots.

Saturday saw the team back on the road as they faced off against High Country. This time, Taber was able to carve out a nice lead and hold on for a 9-5 win. Hathaway scored two and added two assists, Kimoto scored twice and had an assist, and Turnbull scored twice. Blake Untereiner and Jaxson Tychsen scored and had an assist, Bentley Howg hit the back of the net, and Valgardson drew an assist. Arnel-Derksen was back in net and posted a 40-save win.

The U15s don’t return to CAHL action until Dec. 13 when they host Foothills Blue at 5:30 p.m.

U18

It was a one-game weekend for the U18 Oil Kings as they were on the road Saturday to face Pincher Creek. This one was all Taber as they cruised to a 12-0 win. Lincoln Wiebe scored four and had two assists, Ethan Volk had a hat trick and two assists, Julian Woordman had a pair of goals and three assists, and Jude Tams had two assists. Konnor Wiebe, Tate Nakashima, and Jaxson Badura all scored, and Carter Kerkhoff and Adelyn Williamson notched an assist each. Brodyn Sutka had a 54-save shutout in the Taber net.

The U18s now regroup for a two-game weekend. On Friday night, they welcome in Magrath for an 8:15 p.m. puck drop. On Saturday, they head out on the road to take on Claresholm at 2 p.m.
