The Vauxhall Curling Club’s potluck fundraiser will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 13 at the Vauxhall Curling Club.
“This event is a community potluck fundraiser to support the Vauxhall Curling Club and to celebrate the completion of major upgrades that the Town of Vauxhall invested into the curling rink,” said Brandi Doerksen of the Vauxhall Curling Club.
The event, Doerksen says, will feature a pulled pork dinner provided by the Meat Box in Lethbridge, potluck dishes from the community, a silent auction, and a 50/50 draw. Doerksen says that the Curling Club is ‘grateful’ for the many local businesses and individuals who have donated items and time to help make the fundraiser a success.
“It’s a chance to reconnect with the community, raise funds for the club, and showcase the improved facility,” said Doerksen. “Guests will have the chance to learn more about the Vauxhall Curling Club and what we offer, the sport itself, and how easy it is to get involved. Curling is one of the few sports that people of almost any age can play, even with no prior experience, making it a great way to stay active and connect with others in the community. Attendees can also meet our board members, explore the newly completed rink upgrades, and learn how the club gives back to the community through local advertising opportunities and our annual bonspiels. It’s the perfect opportunity for anyone curious about curling or looking to get back into the game. It will be a relaxed, come-and-go evening focused on good food, good company, and community support.”
Doerksen says that after several challenging years of dealing with aging infrastructure, the Vauxhall Curling Club is ‘excited and hopeful’ that the upgrades they are raising money for will ‘ensure the club’s longevity and allow them to return to a full, consistent curling season.’
There are several ways to support the Vauxhall Curling Club’s fundraising efforts beyond the event including being a sponsor for wall signs, scoreboard advertising, or general financial contributions to support the rink and its programs, Doerksen says, and anyone interested in becoming a sponsor or donating can contact the Vauxhall Curling Club at vauxhallcurlingclub@gmail.com or speak with any club member.
“We’re fortunate to have one of the best recreation centers in the area, offering everything in one convenient location – a hockey rink, curling rink, community hall, and swimming pool,” said Doerksen. “It’s a true hub for local activity and community connection. We are very excited for this event! It’s a great opportunity to turn over a new leaf and take the first step toward new possibilities. Our club does so much for the community, and the curling rink has so many opportunities beyond just curling. We’re looking forward to engaging with community members, showcasing everything the rink has to offer, and answering any questions people may have.”
