Tiering continues for Oil Kings

Another weekend of Central Alberta Hockey League tiering has come and went as Taber Oil Kings continue to compete to see where they end up. 

U11 Tier 3

Two more games were on tap for the U11 Tier 3 squad as they looked to add some wins during tiering. First up on Saturday was a game against Medicine Hat. Despite being down heading into the third period, Medicine Hat would score four unanswered and take the game 7-6. Seth Denny had a hat trick for Taber while Ethan Ausmus scored and added an assist, Reed Campbell and Vaughn Emelson had a goal each, and Dreyton Kinniburgh and Jace Perini had an assist each. Avi Rex made 22 saves on 29 shots in the Taber net. 

The weekend finished the weekend with a Sunday road game against Strathmore. Taber would score two third period goals to take the game 5-4. Emelson scored twice, Lucas Bowman had a goal and an assist, Kinniburgh and Dirk Devries hit the back of the net, and Weston Valgardson, Denny, and Perini all had an assist. Rex was back in the cage and made 16 stops on 20 shots. 

U11 Tier 5

First action for the U11 Tier 5 team was a home game against Coaldale on Saturday. Taber scored early and often as they skated to a 15-6 victory. Mya Braun scored five goals and added an assist, Cooper Feldbusch had a hat trick and two assists, Joel Visser had three assists, and Sebastian Woordman-Reimer and Jovian Beebe each scored twice. Aspynn Hart-Jensen, Luke Kramer, and Arianna Friesen all scored a single goal. Zayne Cody made the start in net and collected the win. 

Sunday saw the Oil Kings take on Duchess which was another high-scoring affair for Taber. When the final buzzer rang, Taber had another win — this time 15-4. Braun continued to collect points with four goals and three assists, Feldbusch had four goals, Woordman-Reimer had a pair of goals and two assists, Kramer scored twice and had an assist. Hart-Jensen scored and had two assists, Beebe hit the back of the net twice, and Friesen had an assist. Cody was back in the net and made 11 saves in the win. 

U13

It was a two-game weekend for the U13s as both came on the road. Saturday saw the team travel to Pincher Creek to kick-off the weekend. Pincher Creek would score each period en route to a 10-3 win. Nate Antosko scored twice, Cooper Ross had the other goal while Cage Holcek, Chason Sekura, Arlo Van Geest, Lennon Kover, and Mason Woordman had an assist each. Rhett Wright made 19 saves on 26 shots while Kohen Ilczynski made five saves on eight. 

On Sunday, the team travelled to Coaldale. In a closer game, the U13s would battle but ultimately fall 7-4. Holcek led the way with two goals and two assists and Tyrion Ewing and Ross each had a goal and an assist. Ilczynski made 27 saves on 34 shots in the Taber net. 

U15

Both games for the U15s came on the road this past weekend. First up on Saturday was a trip to Crowsnest Pass that resulted in a 15-0 loss. On Sunday, the team was in Lethbridge and this time, they were able to score plenty of goals en route to a 11-2 win. Mitchell Kimoto had a hat trick and five assists, Logan Rabusic scored two and added three assists, Oliver Turnbull scored and had three assists, and Wyatt Valgardson scored twice and added an assist. Samuel Hathaway and Jaxson Tychsen had a goal and an assist each, Baron Stang hit the back of the net, and Luca Nielsen notched an assist. Aidyn Arnel-Derksen made the start and collected the win in net.

U18

It was a one-game weekend for the U18 Oil Kings as they took on Picture Butte on Friday. Taber would score each period and take the game 9-4. Kylan Odland and Jenner Workman each scored twice, Jude Tams and Lincoln Wiebe scored and had an assist each, and Julian Woordman had two assists. Konnor Wiebe, Tate Nakashima, and Branson DeVlieger all scored, and Ethan Volk, Skylar Jensen, and Jaxson Badura all had an assist. Ty Dorin made the start in net and made 39 saves on 43 shots.
