Taber Times
The hockey season is in full force and the Taber Oil Kings have begun the tiering round for the Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL)
U11 Tier 3
The Tier 3 U11 squad started with a pair of games this weekend as they looked for a strong start to the season. First up was a game against Nanton that saw Taber fall 12-5. Lucas Bowman scored twice for Taber while Ethan Ausmus and Vaughn Emelson each had a goal and an assist, and Dirk Devries scored once. Avi Rex was in net and made 18 saves on 30 shots.
The weekend wrapped up with a game against Foremost. Thanks to a three-goal second period, Taber came away with a 5-2 win. Seth Denny and Jace Perini scored two goals, Devries had a goal and an assist, Jackson Brown notched two assists, and Emelson, McKinley Wiest, and Ausmus all had an assist. Rex made 23 saves on 25 shots in the Taber net.
U11 Tier 5
The Tier 5 team started on the road against Brooks Blue on Saturday morning. Taber scored plenty of goals as they skated to a 6-4 win. Rory Nagai and Cooper Feldbusch scored two goals apiece, Finnley Olson had a goal and an assist, Sebastian Woordman-Reimer scored once, and Mya Braun notched an assist. Zayne Cody was the starter in net and made 12 saves on 16 shots.
Sunday saw the team return home for a game against Redcliff White. This time, Taber was unable to hold off a second and third period flurry from Redcliff as they fell 10-6. Feldbusch led the way with four goals and an assist, Olson and Joel Visser scored the other Taber goals, and Tommi Stang and Kyden Allred had an assist each. Cody started in the game in net and took the loss.
U13 Tier 3
Two games kicked off tiering for the U13 Oil Kings. Saturday saw the team welcome in Lethbridge and it was a tough start to the season as the fell 10-0. Kohen Ilczynski made 33 saves on 43 shots in the Taber net. Sunday against Claresholm was a bounce back performance as the Oil Kings skated to a 13-3 win. Chason Sekura had five goals and an assist, Cage Holcek scored four and added two assists, Nate Antonio scored and had four assists, and Cooper Ross scored one and added three assists. Ryden Baker and Tyrion Ewing scored and had an assist, Lennon Kover, Hudson Ilczynski, and Madden Wright all had a pair of assists, and Kendall Clement, Mason Woordman, and Arlo Van Geest all had an assist. Rhett Wright got the start in net and made 33 saves on 36 shots. Next weekend, the U13s are on the road to take on Pincher Creek on Saturday. On Sunday, they head to Coaldale for their final game of the weekend.
U15
It was a two-game weekend to kick off tiering for the U15s. On Saturday, they hosted Kainai which resulted in a lopsided 12-2 win for the Oil Kings. Mitchell Kimoto and Logan Rabusic each scored four goals and had an assist, Samuel Hathaway had three assists, Baron Stang, Jaxson Tychsen, and Oliver Turnbull all scored and had an assist, and Luca Nielsen hit the back of the net. Blake Untereiner, Bentley Howg, and Benjamin Williamson all collected an assist. Aidyn Arnel-Derksen made 16 saves on 18 shots in between the pipes.
Sunday was a road game against Coaldale that went the opposite way as the Cobras won 9-0. Arnel-Derksen made 47 saves in the Taber net.
Next action for the U15s comes this weekend when they hit the road for both. On Saturday, they play Crowsnest Pass and Sunday is against Lethbridge White.
U18
Two games came and went for the U18 Oil Kings this past weekend. On Friday night, the team took on Bow Island. The Oil Kings would hold a 6-0 lead before Bow Island would score their lone goal past the midway point of the third. Lincoln Wiebe had a hat trick and an assist, Julian Woordman scored and added two assists, Kellon Schalk scored one and added an assist, Jude Tams hit the back of the net and Jenner Workman, Ethan Volk, and Jaxson Badura all notched an assist. Brodyn Sutka had a 19-save day in the Taber crease.
Saturday saw the team on the road to take on Brooks. Once again Taber would take a big lead and win the game — this time 7-1. Badura had a hat trick, Woordman scored and had two assists, Konnor Wiebe had a goal and an assist, Skylar Jensen had two assists, Schalk and Volk scored, and Avery Remfer and Branson DeVlieger each had an assist. Remfert also started in net and made 27 saves on 28 shots.
Friday sees Taber on the road to take on Picture Butte.
