With school back in session, W.R. Myers Rebels football players are also back out on the gridiron. After summer vacation, the Rebels are gearing up for a busy fall as they look to avenge their loss in the 3A Zone final from 2024.
Week 1 for the Southern Alberta High School Football League began last week for the Rebels as they took on the Catholic Central High School Cougars from Lethbridge. Starting at home in August. 29, the Rebels were looking to kick-start their season with a win. Last season in Week 1, the Rebels were able to knock off the Cougars 23-6 to start their season. This time around, it was the Cougars who ran a hot offence en route to a 55-14 win.
The Week 1 loss to the Cougars was not how the Rebels drew it up, but they have plenty of season left to get back on track. Week 2 sees the Rebels return home to take on the Cardston Cougars. Kickoff at Ken McDonald Memorial Sports Complex goes at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5.
Week 4 action sees the first road game of the season for the Rebels as they depart to Strathmore for a Sept. 13 date at 2 p.m. After their stop in Strathmore in Week 4, the Rebels are back out on the road for the next game. September ends with a Week 6 matchup against Winston Churchill on Sept. 26 at 5 p.m.
October is another busy month for the Rebels as they are back on the road for Week 6. On Oct. 3, they take on their rivals — the Crescent Heights Vikings. Kickoff goes at 5 p.m. Week 7 sees the Rebels finally return home before the regular season wraps up. On Oct. 9, they welcome in another rival, the Willow Creek Cobras. Game time is at 7 p.m. at Ken McDonald. The regular season wraps up on Oct. 17 with a Week 7 road game against the McCoy Colts.
