Trail 77’s annual festival week wrapped up earlier this month after a thrilling lineup of outdoor events that celebrated community, fitness, and Taber’s growing reputation as a trail destination. Hosted on the MD of Taber and Town of Taber trail networks, the week brought in record participation and plenty of out-of-town visitors eager to experience the coulees, prairie trails, and energetic vibe of Trail 77.
The week featured four exciting events, each highlighting a different facet of trail sport:
• Taber Tuff Running Race: Known for its scenic but challenging terrain, this race drew runners of all skill levels. Local athletes and visitors alike pounded the dirt through wide-open vistas and rugged climbs.
• Tuff Oldman Duathlon: A new favourite on the calendar, this fun and fast-paced event combined trail running and mountain biking. Inspired by the spirit of both the Taber Tuff and Oldman Mayhem races, the duathlon saw a great mix of newcomers and seasoned athletes pushing through the prairie heat.
• Mini Mayhem Kids MTB Race: The future of trail riding was on full display as young riders zipped through a custom loop built just for them. The energy and excitement of these future shredders brought smiles to everyone watching.
• Oldman Mayhem MTB Race: As the grand finale, this cross-country mountain bike race lived up to its name. Riders tackled coulee descents, dry riverbeds, and cactus-lined climbs in what has become a signature event for the region.
Festival week organizers noted a significant increase in out-of-town participants this year, with visitors traveling from across Alberta and beyond to take part.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout,” said Trail 77 in a statement. “The trails were in top shape, the volunteers were incredible, and the atmosphere all week was just electric.”
Trail 77 also acknowledged the continued support of the MD of Taber and the Town of Taber, whose commitment to recreational infrastructure made these events possible. With momentum building, the group looks forward to expanding future festivals and continuing to showcase the amazing outdoor opportunities in the Taber area.
