The summer season has officially ended for the Jr. Spurs as they wrapped up their schedule over the weekend. The Jr. Spurs have had a busy schedule this summer with plenty of games on tap. On July 13, the team had a doubleheader against the Lethbridge Jr. Bulls and Fort Macleod Royals.
In the first game against the Jr. Bulls, Vauxhall fell back 13-0 in the first inning. Undeterred, the Spurs put up runs in every inning and were able to tie the game 15-15 in the bottom of the seventh. Unfortunately, they were unable to plate the winning run, and the game ended tied. The Jr. Spurs saw contributions up and down the lineup as Braden, Everett Smith and Gibson Best had two hits each. Josh Tolsma, Hunter Simpson, Nixon Donald, Roan Strach, Jacob Keenen, and Tristan Schrader all had a hit in the game. In a rough first inning, B. Smith, Dyck, and Donald allowed 13 runs. Jensen came in as the last reliever and gave the Spurs an exceptional 6.1 innings with three punch-outs while allowing two earned runs on six hits and three free passes.
After an exciting game one, the team was back on the diamond to take on the Royals later that day. This time, the Spurs jumped out to an early lead, but they saw it evaporate after a rough sixth inning. When the game ended, the Spurs had lost 13-8. They had four hits in the game as Simpson had two while Tolsma and Best had one each. Strach made the start and gave Vauxhall three innings with three strikeouts. Six runs came into score (five earned) on five hits and six walks. Evan Daniels pitched 1.2 innings with two K’s and four earned runs on three hits and four walks. Ty Dorin finished things off with two-thirds of an inning with a strikeout and three runs (one earned) on a hit and four walks.
This past weekend saw the Jr Spurs compete in their final game of the season. On Saturday, the Jr. Spurs were on the road as they went to Cranbrook to take on the Bandits.
After a scoreless first inning, the Sours were able to score six runs over the next three innings. This would be all the scoring they’d need as they took a 6-3 win over the Bandits. Simpson led the way with two hits in the game while Ashton Jensen had a double. Best, Liam Okell, Donald, and Tristan Dyck all contributed with a single. Strach pitched five and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts while allowing three earned runs on four hits and three walks.
