Lacrosse season hits the gas as summer nears

Summer is nearly here and Taber lacrosse teams are batting for position in the Southern Alberta Lacrosse League (SALA) and the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL).

U11

The month ended with one home game for the U11 Thrashers as they welcomed in Brooks Drillers White on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, Brooks saw their offence go off as they collected a 16-3 win against Taber. Damien Ellis had all three Taber goals in the loss. Next regular season action for the U11 Thrashers comes on June 14 when they welcome in Lethbridge Cudas White at 4:15 p.m.

U13

It was a two-game weekend for the U13 Thrashers as they were in Lethbridge on Saturday. First up was a matchup against Lethbridge Cudas White. It was a close battle between the two teams but it was Taber who was able to pull off a 7-6 win. Jayce Ellis was on fire with four goals and an assist, Lincoln Braun had two goals and two assists, and Lennon Kover hit the back of the net once. 

The final game of the weekend came later that day when the Thrashers took on Medicine Hat Sundevils Black. No game sheet was available on Tuesday morning. 

The U13s return to SALA action on June 14 when they host Sundevils Yellow at 9 a.m. and then Cudas Blue at 3 p.m. 

U15

Home games were on the schedule this past weekend for the U15 Thrashers. Game one saw the team take on Sundevils Yellow as the home team looked to start the weekend off strong. Thanks to a monstrous seven-goal third period, the Thrashers were able to carve out a 12-9 win. Cohen Lebeuf led the team with three goals and two assists, Logan Rabusic scored four goals and Jonah Fournier had a hat trick and an assist. Hayden Eldridge scored twice and added a pair of assists, Fisher Lutz had two assists, and Benjamin White Quills and Dalan Blasetti each chipped in with an assist. 

Looking to make it a 2-0 weekend, the Thrashers matched up against the Lethbridge Cudas later that evening. This time, the Thrashers took an early lead and didn’t let up as they won 10-4. Fournier had another four goals while Rabusic had three goals and an assist, and Eldridge put three past the Cudas’ netminder. White Quills and Lebeuf each had two assists in the win while Carson Marose found the scoresheet with a single assist. 

The U15s are off from SALA regular season action until June 15 when they play a pair of games in Brooks. First up at 11:15 a.m. is a game against the Brooks Drillers. They wrap up play with an evening game against Medicine Hat Sundevils Black at 5:15 p.m.

U17

The U17s had a two-game week as they were in Brooks on Tuesday night. Despite being tied at two apiece after one, the Drillers were able to score plenty of goals as they cruised to an 11-5 win. Taber saw Raiden Koizumi and Heston Hansen each had two goals and two assists, Liam Slomp had a goal, and Mason Schwarz collected an assist. 

On Saturday afternoon, the team was back home as they welcomed in the Lethbridge Cudas. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the Thrashers’ day as they fell 7-2 at home. Lincoln Torsos and Hansen had the Taber goals while Koizumi had one assist. 

The U17 Thrashers return to SALA games on June 14 when they come home to take on the Brooks Drillers at 11:15 a.m.

Southern Alberta Chaos

The Southern Alberta Chaos were back on the court this past weekend as they played in two games. Saturday saw the team back out on the road as they took on the Foothills Spurs. The Chaos took a 5-2 lead in the first and never relented as they poured it on with a 16-7 win. 

Austin Sheen was unstoppable scoring six goals and adding four assists. Devon Robichaud scored once and added an assist, Michael Dyck had four goals and an assist, Carter Kerkhoff scored and had three assists, Jett Matisho had three helpers, and Carter Foote, Hunter Skrove, and Colton Litke all had a goal and an assist. Ryder Douglas found the back of the net, and Asher Pancoast, Parker Forrest, Taeson Knife, and Brady Weasel Fat all chipped in an assist. 

Sunday was a home game last the Chaos looked to go 2-0 on the weekend as they took on the Rockyview Rage. Once again, it was the Chaos offence that led the way as they scored early and often en route to a 17-3 win. Sheen scored three more times and had three assists, Dyck had five goals and one assist while Robichaud had a goal and five assists. Connor Materi scored four and had two assists, Grant Petronech and Matisho had two assists each, Forrest hit the back of the net, and Logan Jones, Dash Robichaud, Pancoast, and Weasel Fat had an assist. 

The Chaos return next week for a single home game as they see the Calgary Bandits come to town for a 6 p.m. game. The Chaos currently sit in second place in the South Division with a 6-1 record.
