Once again, St. Mary’s School have a combined girls slo pitch team with W.R. Myers High School. We have fourteen girls playing from grades 9 – 12, with some returning and some new players. It is a short season that sees us playing league games and a league finals tournament in June. Each league game is a double header in which you play the same team twice back to back. The team is coached by returning coach Mark Planger and Ashley Pulfer who is new to the coaching staff this season.

They kicked off their season travelling to Milk River on Tuesday this past week. It was a good start to the season for the girls to get the dust off the gear and for some players it was their first game ever, but we ended up losing both games. The new players to the team are fitting in well and we had a good defensive game. There were some notable defensive plays by Logan Meier, Holly Lindsay and Tessa Langlands. Our offense had some trouble getting on track, but all and all it was a good starting point for the season. Georgia Bael led the way offensively with a triple and two singles.

The next evening we hosted Prairie Winds Secondary here at Confederation Park and we were able to win both games. Once again our team showed good defense with notable plays from Brooklyn Olson and Taylor Brown. In this game we saw our offense come alive led by Gabby Miller with a single and a double and Jayden Angyal hitting a single, double and a triple. We had lots of hits up and down the lineup in both games we played. We have seen improvement in each game we have played and are looking forward to a fun season of slo pitch. The girls host Vauxhall this Tuesday, May 6 at 5 pm at Confederation diamond one, come out and cheer them on.
