The Taber Christian High School Lions travelled to Immanuel Christian on Feb. 26 to play in the Deep South League Championship semi final game. We played the second-seeded ICHS team in the event, a team we played in our first game of the season and took a loss against. We were excited to get another chance to play ICHS as they are ranked number two in the province and we were looking forward to a good challenge. As expected ICHS came out tough and played a strong game throughout.
We came out and had a good first half against them with the score ending 30 – 37. Being down and heading into the second half of the game we knew we had to keep pace with them as they were not going to go easy on us. We were able to keep close with them throughout the game although it ended up in a loss for us 57-68. We were proud of the improvements that we had against them as in our first game we lost by 20 points.
The game had Iya Hoekstra lead in scoring with 26 points followed by Irena Kuyper with 13 and Logan Meier with nine. On the boards Kuyper led with 14, Hoekstra grabbed seven and had eight steals.
Our next game will be on Wednesday, March 5 at W.R. Myers when we take on Stirling in the bronze medal game for the League Championships. Game time is at 5:45 p.m. for anyone that wants to come out and cheer on the Lions.
