CAHL schedule continues for Oil Kings

It was another busy weekend for Taber Oil Kings teams as the Central Alberta Hockey League rolled on.

U11

The U11 team was on the ice for a pair of games this past weekend. Saturday saw the team on the road as they took on Bow Island. The Oil Kings were unable to overcome Bow Island as the home team took it 7-2. Nash Funk and Dreyton Kinniburgh had the Taber goals and Boston Bassett made 10 saves on 17 shots in net.

Sunday saw the team take on Foremost in a close battle. But Foremost skated to a win thanks to a two-goal third period en route to a 7-5 win. Funk added another two goals while Seth Denny, Kinniburgh, and Madden Nakamura all scored for Taber. Kohen Ilczynski made 33 saves on 40 shots.

Next up for the U11s is a Sunday morning game on the road against Duchess.

U13 Tier 3

The U13 Tier 3 Oil Kings were off from their CAHL schedule this past weekend. They regroup for a two-game road trip this coming weekend. First up is a Friday afternoon game against Magrath at 1:45 p.m. Sunday sees the team head to Coaldale to take on the Cobras at 1 p.m.

U13 Tier 4

The Tier 4 squad was on the ice for two games this past weekend as they took on Brooks and Foremost. Friday night saw Brooks and Taber battle in a close game. Brooks was able to take it 8-7 thanks to three unanswered goals in the final frame. Wyatt Valgardson led the way for Taber with two goals and two assists while Lennon Kover had a goal and an assist, and Luke Engwer, Cage Holcek, Holden Lyon, and Arlo Van Geest all had a goal. Kendall Rae Clement, Cooper Ross, Chason Sekura, and Mason Woordman all had an assist. Aidyn Derksen Arnel made 39 saves on 47 shots in the Taber crease.

The weekend wrapped up with a home date on Saturday against Foremost. Once again, it was a tight game that saw the opposition win as Foremost skated to a 6-4 win. Valgardson scored another two goals, Holcek added a goal and an assist, Sekura scored once, and Kover and Woordman each had an assist. Derksen Arnel was back in net and made 30 saves on 35 shots.

The U13 Tier 4 Oil Kings are back in action this weekend with a single road game. On Saturday the team travels to Redcliff for a 1 p.m. puck drop.

U15

One game was on tap for the U15s as they were in Foremost on Saturday. Despite a comeback attempt, the Oil Kings were unable to find a late-game-tying goal as they fell 4-3. Lincoln Wiebe had a goal and an assist for Taber, Ryder Nielsen notched a pair of assists, Ethan Volk and Kash Kover scored once each, and Kellon Schalk, Logan Rabusic, and Samuel Hathaway all had an assist. Brodyn Sutka was busy in between the pipes as the netminder made 49 saves on 53 shots.

The U15s are back on the ice for a single game this coming weekend as they head to Lethbridge on Sunday. Puck drop is set for 4:15 p.m.

U18

Looking to add another win in 2025, the U18 Oil Kings had a busy two-game weekend. Friday night saw the team host Kainai which resulted in a lopsided 12-2 win for the Oil Kings. Kayden Kress potted four goals and added two assists, Konnor Wiebe had two goals and three assists, Ayden Umbach had two goals and two assists, Carter Kerkhoff had a goal and three assists, and Blake Rabusic scored twice and added an assist. Other players hit the scoresheet, including Adelyn Williamson who had two assists, Samuel Klaas had a goal, and Jasper Sidam, Tanner Fletcher, Tate Nakashima, Avery Remfert, and Evan Untereiner all notched an assist. Remfert was between the pipes and made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Saturday evening’s game saw the Oil Kings take on Lethbridge in Taber. The Oil Kings’ offence continued to fill the net as they skated to an 8-4 win. Kress added another three goals, Wuebe had a goal and two assists, Skylar Jensen had three assists, Sidam sniped two, and Jude Tams had a goal and an assist. Rabusic scored a single goal, and Klaas, Fletcher, and Williamson all found the scoresheet with an assist. Ty Dorin made 42 saves on 46 shots in the Taber net.

The U18s look to continue their unbeaten streak in 2025 this coming weekend with two road games. Friday sees them rematch against Kainai at 7 p.m. while Saturday’s game is against High Country White at 5:15 p.m.
