The Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL) regular season is in full force for all Taber Oil Kings teams.
U11
It was another busy weekend for the U11 Oil Kings as they played in a pair of games. First up was a home game on Saturday morning against Foremost. In a back-and-forth game, a big five-goal third period wasn’t enough as Taber fell 8-7. Nash Funk led the way scoring four of the Taber goals, Dreyton Kinniburgh had a goal and an assist, while Cole Span and Reed Campbell had a goal each. Kohen Ilczynski made 47 saves on 55 shots in the Oil Kings’ crease.
On Sunday, the Oil Kings were on the road to take on Brooks. In another high-scoring affair, the Oil Kings were unable to grind their way to a win as the home team won 15-9. Funk had another five goals and an assist, Lucas Bowman, Seth Denny, Kinniburgh, and Madded Nakamura all scored one goal, and Finnley Olson and Mya Braun notched an assist each. Boston Bassett was the starting netminder and made 20 saves on 35 shots.
U13 Tier 3
It was a one-game weekend for the U13 Tier 3 team as they hosted Okotoks Gold on Saturday. Thanks to a three-goal third period, the Oil Kings secured a 4-3 victory on home ice. Mitchell Kimoto had two of the Taber goals while Logan Rabusic had a goal and an assist, Ryden Baker scored a single, and Baron Stang, Jaxson Tychsen, Lincoln Braun, Luca Nielsen, and Dylan Volk all found the scoresheet with an assist. Dylan Volk also made 34 saves on 37 shots in the Taber net.
U13 Tier 4
Two games were on tap this weekend for the U13 Tier 4 team as they looked to build off a successful first weekend. Saturday’s game was at home as Taber took on Irvine. It was a battle from start to finish and neither team could find a game-winner as it ended in a 5-5 deadlock. Wyatt Valgardson had a goal and two assists, Cooper Ross scored twice, Cage Holcek and Holden Lyon had a goal each, and Mason Woordman, Arlo Van Geest, and Holden Capner had an assist each. Aidyn Derksen Arnel was solid in net with a 22-save performance.
Sunday’s game against Bow Island was one to forget as the home team ran over the Oil Kings with an 11-1 win. Valgardson had the goal while Van Geest collected the lone assist. Derksen Arnel was back in net and made 33 saves on 44 shots.
U15
The U15 Oil Kings were busy once again with a pair of games. Saturday was a home game as Redcliff was in town for an evening match. Taber started out fast and was able to double up Redcliff 8-4. Jenner Workman was on fire with four goals and two assists, Lincoln Wiebe had a hat trick and an assist, Kellon Schalk notched three assists, Ryder Nielsen scored one and added an assist, Ethan Volk had two assists, and Kash Kover and Mitchell Kimoto each had one assist. Brodyn Sutka made 31 saves on 35 shots in the Taber net.
