It was another busy weekend for the Alberta Elite Hockey League and Taber Golden Suns teams were back on the ice looking for wins.
U11
The U11 Suns had a two-game weekend that saw them host Red Deer and Foothills. Saturday was a big matchup as the Suns were looking to get on a roll. In a back-and-forth game, Red Deer was able to score four goals in the third period en route to a 6-5 win. Nash Dyck had two goals and an assist, Boone Depew scored one and had two assists, Paxton Foote had three assists, Madex Howg and Dacen Knoblich had a goal each, and Korbin Rodwell and Justice Luther had an assist. Tove Morgan made 40 saves on 46 shots in the Suns’ net.
In a rematch from last weekend, Sunday saw the Suns take on the Foothills Bisons once again. It was another blowout as the Suns crushed to a 31-0 win.
The U11s now have some time off from AEHL action. They return to the regular season schedule on Dec. 14 against the Medicine Hat Hounds.
U13
It was a single-game weekend for the U13 Suns as they were back at home to take on the Airdrie Lightning. Despite being outshot 52-32 in the game, it was the Suns who emerged victorious with an 8-6 win. Boston Constant had a hat trick for Taber, Eli Robb had a goal and two assists, Cooper Lutz and Jackson Wiest had a goal and an assist, Shawn Mrowil and Blaze Wenzel scored once, and Jaxon Kalo, Holden Emelson, Deacon Webb, and Declan Okell all had an assist. Drew Tame was solid in net with a 46-save win.
Next weekend sees another single game on tap with a Saturday game on the road as the Suns take on the Wheatland Braves.
U15
Looking to avenge their loss from the previous weekend, the U15 Suns had a single game against the Foothills Bisons this weekend. Thanks to a last-minute goal from Hayden Eldridge, the Suns were able to secure a 5-4 win at home. Eldridge scored two in the game while Ryker Orsten and Bril Haraga had a goal and an assist, Julian Woordman had two assists, Cole Bouchard had a single goal, and Paxton Powell, Nash Skanderup, and Tony King each chipped in with an assist. Jack Lukacs collected the win in net with a 24-save performance.
Next weekend, the Suns head to Lethbridge on Friday for a matchup against the Hurricanes at 7 p.m The weekend wraps up with a Sunday game on the road against the Wheatland Warriors at 1:15 p.m.
U18
Friday night was the only game for the U18s as they were on the road to take on the Okotoks Oilers. It was a low-scoring game as neither team was able to find the back of the net consistently. The Oilers would score the lone goal in period one while the second saw neither team score. Tage Jensen would get Taber on the board in the third as Landon McEwen had the assist. With 43 seconds left in the game, the Oilers would score a powerplay goal and would seal the 2-1 win. Dagrin Bahr-Hemsing kept the Suns in the game as the netminder made 54 saves on 56 shots.
The U18s are back on the ice on Friday night when the Foothills Bisons come to Taber for an 8:15 p.m. puck drop. The Suns then hit the road to take on the Lethbridge Hounds on Sunday at 11:45 a.m.
