We are entering our fifth year as a high school here in Taber. This is the fourth year that we have been able to have a volleyball team competing in the ASAA and south zone competitions. This year we are led by a team of six grade twelve players: Sebastian Hoekstra, Jorge Sierra, Nicky Unger, Adrian Unger, Johnie Berg and David Wiebe.
We joined the new Deep South Volleyball league that was created this year when the SAIAC league fell apart last year.
We finished second in the league behind Prairie Winds from Coaldale. As a small school we compete in the 1A zones. This year the boys tournament was held in Picture Butte.
We entered the tournament seeded number two behind St. Michael’s from Pincher Creek. We were also ranked #2 in the province behind them as well. We did well in pool play getting the automatic bye to the semi-final against Coaldale Christian. We defeated them in two sets to face St. Michael’s in the finals.
We came out strong with fantastic setting from Sebastian Hoekstra and timely hitting from all the other five players. Our hard serving team made it so that we won in two straight 25-18, 25-23.
We now go to provincials at St. Michael’s in Pincher Creek as the #1 seed for the tournament.
