Due to the unexpected spring rains, the St. Mary’s Auroras slo pitch team had to reschedule some games, but they continued to play over the last two weeks.
On May 14, St. Mary’s played Vauxhall at home. The Auroras won the first game 9-7 and lost the second game 24-8. Kennedy Planger pitched in game one and the team showed good defense and patience at the plate when hitting. Jewel Muller led the offense in the game with a well-hit triple. In game two, the Vauxhall girls were hitting strong and the St. Mary’s defense wasn’t up for the challenge. Jayden Angyal took the mound for St. Mary’s and Planger hit a three run home run for the hit of the game.
On May 21, the team played Kate Andrews at home. The teams were originally slated to play in Coaldale, but the diamonds were under water from the rain. In game one, Angyal was on the mound, and she pitched well. There was some excellent team defense led by Sophia Reyes and Nyla DeBoer, but ultimately they lost 9-4. The opposing pitcher was able to keep the St. Mary’s hitters off balance, but Logan Meier and Reyes each nailed two hits. Game two was 2-1 in the second inning before the rain and lightning shut the game down. Planger was pitching and she also hit a solo home run in the effort.
This week the girls play their last two league games with a trip to Milk River on Tuesday before hosting Chinook High School on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Confederation Park.
