Plenty of Taber Oil Kings teams were back in action this past weekend as Central Alberta Hockey League playoff action continued.
U13
After going 0-2 in their first two games of playoff round robin, the U13 Oil Kings were back on the ice on March 3 as they took on Cochrane. The home team scored early and often as they took it to the Oil Kings 14-2. Jaxson Tychsen had a goal and an assist in the game while Lincoln Braun had the other goal, and Theoren Bolig and Dalan Blasetti each had an assist. Chance Crowson made 44 saves on 58 shots in the Taber net.
Taber now looks to regroup for another round-robin playoff game this weekend as Picture Butte is in town for a Saturday 10:30 a.m. game.
U15
In their second-round matchup, the undefeated U15 Oil Kings took on Kainai. Game 1 went on Friday night and both teams saw their offenses go off. Despite a furious comeback in the third period, the Oil Kings were able to hold on for a 10-9 win. Ryder Nielsen had five goals, Lincoln Wiebe had four goals, Julian Woordman had a goal and an assist, Adelyn Williamson and Ethan Volk each had two assists, and Dawson Reynolds had a single assist. Brodyn Sutka made 33 saves on 42 shots in the Taber net.
Looking to wrap up the series, Taber returned home on Saturday for Game 2. In another close battle, Taber was once again able to carve out a one-goal win — this time 6-5. Wiebe had a goal and three assists, Jenner Workman had a hat trick, Nate Kramer had three assists, Kellon Schalk had a goal and an assist, Woordman had two assists, Jaxson Badura had a goal, and Skylar Jensen had an assist. Jack Lukacs was in between the pipes and made 22 saves on 27 shots.
Taber now suits up to take on Coaldale in the Tier 3 Yellow Championship. Game one goes in Coaldale on Friday at 5:15 p.m. The teams then head to Taber for Game 2 on Saturday with puck drop set for 5:30 p.m.
