Christmas break has arrived for Taber Oil Kings teams as this past weekend saw the final action of the Central Alberta Hockey League until the new year.
U11
It was a single-game weekend for the U11 Oil Kings as they welcomed in Irvine on Saturday morning. When the final buzzer rang, Irvine was able to double up Taber 6-3. Lincoln Braun, Cage Holcek, and Paxton Foote had the Taber goals while Luca Nielsen, Ryden Baker, and Luke Engwer each had an assist. Dylan Volk made 36 saves on 42 shots in the Taber net.
The U11 Oil Kings return to the ice on Jan. 5 when they head to Vauxhall to take on Redcliff with puck drop set for 5:30 p.m.
U13
Two games were on the U13 schedule this past weekend as Taber had a pair of road games.
On Friday night, the team took on Picture Butte. In a close battle, it was Taber who was able to carve out a 6-4 win. Kash Kover had four goals for Taber while Logan Rabusic had a pair and Wyatt Valgardson had an assist. Chance Crowson collected the win in net with a 35-save performance.
On Sunday afternoon, Taber took on Crowsnest Pass. Unfortunately for Taber, the home team scored plenty of goals in an 8-4 win. Jaxson Tychsen had two goals, Dalan Blasetti had a goal and an assist, Theoren Bolig had one goal, and Blake Untereiner, Seth Jespersen, and Rabusic all had one assist. Aidyn Derksen Arnel made 56 saves on 64 shots in net.
The U15 Oil Kings get the second half of the season started with a pair of home games. On Jan. 6, the team welcomes in High Country for a 5:30 p.m. game while Vulcan comes to town on Sunday for a 10:30 a.m. puck drop.
U15
The U15 Oil Kings were off this past weekend and return to the ice on Jan. 6 and Jan. 7 with games against Lethbridge Red. Saturday’s game goes in Lethbridge at 1 p.m. with the teams coming back to Taber on Sunday for a 3:30 p.m. puck drop.
U18
The first half of the season ended with two games for the U18 Oil Kings as they hosted Pincher Creek Black and Coaldale. On Friday night, Pincher Creek was in town and they were all business as they carved out a 9-3 win against the Oil Kings. Kellen Lauwen had two goals while Ryan Gray had the other. Mason Van Seters and Carter Jensen had two assists each while Samuel Klaas and Aiden Farewell had singles. Avery Remfert made 23 saves on 32 shots in the Taber net.
Sunday wasn’t much better for the Oil Kings when Coaldale came to town and skated to a 7-1 victory. Tristen Egeland-Cusker had the lone Taber goal with Ayden Umbach and Carter Kerkhoff drawing the assists. Ty Dorin was in net for Taber and made 44 saves on 51 shots.
The Oil Kings return to the ice on Jan. 5 when they welcome Pincher Creek Black for an 8:15 p.m. game.
