Taber’s U11 Oil Kings hockey team have emerged victorious as the Alberta Tier 4 champions following weekend play at the Taber Ice Arena.
During the March 18-19 weekend, the Oil Kings took the south division banner versus Duchess in a three game series which resulted in two wins and a loss.
“These kids have fought hard all year for this title and seen it out till the end, bringing home two banners on home ice,” said Kendall-Jo Valgardson.
As part of a three game round robin, last Monday the team competed versus Standard at home which finished in a 3-3 tie, then travelled to Red Deer on Saturday for a tough game versus an all-girls team, beating them out with a 4-2 win, followed by a final game on Sunday on home ice versus Sylvan Lake with an incredible 10-4 victory, sealing their ascension as Central Alberta Champions.
During the Sunday match-up versus Sylvan Lake at the Taber Ice Arena, Logan Rabusic was on top of the heap with three goals and one assist, while Wyatt Valgardson chipped in for two goals. Dalan Blasetti had one goal and three assists, Barrett DeVlieger had one goal and two assists, and Ross Cooper had three assists. Jaxson Tychsen, Lincoln Braun and Mitchell Kimoto each had one goal and one assist. Baron Stang had two assists, while Cage Holcek and Ryden Baker had single assists.
In net, Dylan Volk faced 16 shots with 12 saves.
