It was a weekend of heartbreak for W.R. Myers Rebels at the 2A boys basketball provincials.
At Bearspaw Christian School in Calgary, Taber started the tournament strong before two tightly-contested losses knocked the Rebels out of medal contention.
In the end, Myers fell in a hard-fought contest in the bronze-medal game, by a score of 70-69 to the host Bearspaw squad.
Kade Lund scored a team-high 22 points for Myers in the loss, while Colby Hansen had 15 and Chase Jensen chipped in with 14. Colby Torrie and Joel Torrie had eight points each.
As tough as that game was for the Rebels, the team’s defeat in the provincial semifinal was nearly as close, as Myers fell by four points to Calgary’s West Island College.
Lund once again paced Myers with 23 points in the 75-71 loss, as Colby Torrie had 20. Carter Moser added 11 and Jensen finished with 10.
The Rebels opened play on Thursday with a 70-59 win over St. Joseph’s Collegiate from Brooks. Lund led Myers with 30 points in the victory, while Colby Torrie added 13 and Joel Torrie chipped in with 11.
Provincials capped a solid season for the Rebels, as the team finished 9-3 in Deep South Basketball League play. For the regular season, Lund, Jensen and Moser earned all-star nods.
