With the baseball season just around the corner, a local product is back for the summer.

The Lethbridge Bulls announced earlier this week former Vauxhall Academy of Baseball infielder Ty Penner will be back at Spitz Stadium as the Western Canadian Baseball League returns to the diamond after the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Penner was attending the University of British Columbia and now joins an infield of seven players that also includes fellow southern Albertan and Coaldale native Torrin Vaselenak.

In 2019, Penner hit .242 with the Bulls with one home run and 13 RBI in 27 games. With the signing of Penner, the Bulls now have 24 players on their roster.

The Bulls open their training camp June 11 and host their home opener June 18 against the Okotoks Dawgs at Spitz Stadium.

If provincial COVID-19 regulations head into Stage 2, as vaccinations go up and hospitalizations drop, the Bulls hope to have between 400 and 500 spectators in the stands for the home opener.
