Nine players and one coach from Lethbridge and area will take part in the 2018 Alberta Cup, including two Taberites.
Hockey Alberta announced its rosters for the eight teams that will compete in this year’s Alberta Cup, running today until April 29 in Spruce Grove.
Eight teams will lace up in the annual tournament, including two from each of Calgary and Edmonton, and one each representing the South, Central, Northeast and Northwest zones of the province. Joining the team this year are defencemen Carson Haynes (Taber), Bill Houenagnon (Lethbridge) and Brody Tallman (Lethbridge), forwards Rylan Burns (Pincher Creek), Conner Furukawa (Lethbridge), Colby Garner (Taber), Cole Larocque (Lethbridge), Nolan Price (Coaldale) and goaltender Tyler Palmer (Lethbridge).
Lethbridge’s Garry Kimmen will join Team South’s staff as an assistant coach.
Twenty 2003-born players comprise each roster, along with volunteers serving as head coach, assistant coaches, trainer and director of operations.
Rosters were selected from zone camps held March 23-25 across the province. The teams will play in a four-day tournament. The event also features an education seminar hosted by the WHL.
Eighty players from this year’s competition will be selected to attend Team Alberta’s provincial camp in July, with a chance to represent their province at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.
