Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns are off to a strong start for its 2016/2017 South Central Alberta Hockey League season with two wins and a tie on the road.
The Suns started off October’s slate with a 7-4 win over Foothills Bisons on the road.
Rylen Roersma exploded for four goals in the win and Nathan Verloop tallied twice to go with four assists. Caden Heins rounded out the scoring with a single and two assists. Scout Sidam earned the win in net, facing 26 shots on goal.
This past weekend saw the peewee Suns beat Airdrie Lightning White 5-2 on Saturday.
Specialty teams played a big role as four of the five Suns goals came off of the power play or shorthanded. Roersma, Heins, Caylee Crowson, Verloop and Ryan Holm scored for the Suns. Heins and Roersma recorded two assists apiece as well. Landon Porteous earned the win in net, facing 26 shots.
Sunday’s slate featured a 5-5 draw against the Bisons.
Roersma had two goals and Verloop, Heins and Holm had singles. Jed Magarrell had two assists.
Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns are on the road on Saturday against Lethbridge Hurricanes Red before hosting its first regular season home game on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Taber Arena against West Central Tigers.
BANTAM: Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns earned a lopsided 10-3 win over Foothills Bisons on the road in SCAHL play on Sunday.
Kalem Haney had four goals and Jayden Kostiuk had the hat trick. Gabe Neufeld had two tallies and Cody Stange had a single. Kolby James drew two assists. Blake Vaselenak earned the win in net, facing 26 shots on goal.
Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns have a homestand this weekend, starting off with an 8:30 p.m. game on Friday against Foothills Bisons at the Taber Arena. The team continues on at home on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. game against Central Alberta Selects at the Taber Arena.
MIDGET: Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns won both of its games this past weekend in SCAHL play on the road.
The first game was Friday’s 4-3 edging of CRAA Blue. Broc Merkl was active for the win in goal, stopping 53 of 56 shots on goal.
The team proceeded to beat Foothills Bisons 5-2 on Saturday.
Chase Gedny potted the hat trick for the Suns with Brant Mack and Zach Trempner getting singles. Mack also had two assists.
Merkl earned the win in net, facing 21 shots on goal.
Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns are on the road this weekend with a Saturday game against Airdrie Lightning and a Sunday game against CBHA Rangers.
